Ménendez Borges Intertextuality

This is significant because Herbert Quain is a character in Ménendez's Adios, Happy Homeland! which Ménendez borrowed. There is an interesting relationship between a character who in Borge's writing despised writings of the past and the Quain in Ménendez's work which is in itself a reference to a writing of the past. So in a way, Quain is now what he least liked. This touches on the topic of intertextuality because this reference to a previous text helped form many of the ideas expressed not only through he sole writings of Ménendez but the added layer of complexity that is granted from knowing that Quain is a character in a different story.

ATGC and 'All That Genetic Code'

Intertextuality is the idea that a work of literature, a movie, and other works are actually interconnected because the writer/director/etc. was influenced by the works of other individuals. We see this clearly in movies with the most recent occurrence that comes to mind being the film "Free Guy" which start Ryan Reynolds. In the film there are references to Star Wars, Fortnite, and other well known video-games as well as music. Another example is "Ready Player One" which references movies, video-games and other pop culture references. The beauty of this compilation of references is that it unites us as a society and that although this is one work of fiction it has several layers of abstraction of which we are familiar and we enjoy.

For science, the concept is a bit more straightforward and we arrive at the idea that regardless of who we are individually we are a compilation of our predecessors. Not just metaphorically but literally as was evidenced by the proof of the Recent Out of Africa Theory as well as the fact that our mitochondrial DNA is relatively new than say other predecessors such as Chimps. Another good example in which genetic intertextuality is blended with literature and history is the idea behind the creation of "Assassin's Creed" which develops the idea that because the lives of our ancestors and ours are intertwined there is a way to revisit our genetic code and in which lies the entire lives and experiences of those who lived before us.
