Research is a structured quest for knowledge and truth.

If you read journal papers and articles published (knowledge dissemination stage), it is likely great effort has been started years ahead. It could be a year or a few years before the ethical board approval is obtained. A few years were spent on conducting studies and following up with patients.

Why the pain? If there is no one conducting research, there will never be evidence-based medicine to guide clinical practice.

The requirements for being a PI registered in ECOS (https://www.ecos-research.com.sg/login) are:

1) completed CITI https://about.citiprogram.org (available free for SingHealth and some other PHI). There are many modules, but choose the 'Biomedical Research Investigators and Key Personnel- Basic Course'.

2) Human Biomedical Research Act (HBRA) at Blackboard e-learning (singhealthacademy.edu.sg)

3) Good Clinical Practice (GCP), also in e-learning.

The certificates need to be renewed upon expiry.
