I have given students a task, similar to the slides we did in this workshop, and have had them answer some questions. I am in the class, and I interact with them while they write, so they know I am there. It works well and students can see what others have shared.

My class is asynchronous so not using much.
But, I guess, in a synch class it would be useful for group activities, such as lab like classes.

In breakout rooms or as a Canvas discussion (for my fully online class), students look at an obscure/interesting photo (taken from NY Times learning) and try to come to a consensus about what's going on and where and when the photo was taken. In Canvas, it become a nice back-and-forth as students disagree with one another or applaud their classmates' insight. On Zoom, the groups come back to the main session, share with the class, and then debate a little. I reveal the answer as a discussion post on Canvas or in the Zoom session. They LOVE this activity, and the photos are real photos that appeared in the NY times, so that's nice too.

I usually have students practice a role-play during breakout rooms. They share their screen and project the Canvas page with the dialogue and role-play. For group work, they use Google slides to draft a presentation and decide the different roles they each have.
