To help students connect to their career goals I would have them contact people in that industry as if they could speak with them or ask for advice.

Thrively had great description for basic careers in computer science. I thought the categories and descriptions were accurate. Today I created a playlist. If I had to start a unit on career exploration, I would make my students go through the playlist I created.

I would have students research jobs related to Information Security and the computer languages, operating systems currently being used in the industry.

Thrively: I would have them share their career goals and then look for majors that go with that career goal. I would have them explore colleges that offer that major as well.

Use Thrively to communicate students’s strengths and CTE experience to bridge the gaps between skills & career choice. For example: I noticed that you’re really good at math, have you ever thought of financial services as a career?

Use Thrively to identify student strengths and interests, and then have students research 3 careers that they might want to pursue.

Complete the Strengths Profiler then choose two Career Pathways to research including College Major, Colleges that have that major, other tasks needed to complete the Pathway. Create a Presentation on their findings to share with the class in EKadence discussion.

If I were to start a unit on career exploration tomorrow I would start with Thrively or CA career zone where they could take the personality test, find careers and answer questions in a multi media text document. One objective would be to understand "how do I get from here to career"-what college degrees do they need? Grad school? Med school? Law school?

Each lesson is motivated by a job in design careers
Students will explore requirements for job, is school needed, pay, longevity of job ect
As lesson is completed students share interest in that field and worries, frustrations, excitement about lesson and possibilities of internship or entry level job in specific job

I would use Thrively and other tools to have students research potential careers in our pathway, and then determine what educational steps are required to work in the pathway.

I like the career pathways site. It really helps student see which college programs they have an interest in are local.

As part of our Creator Academy — one of our focuses is to get kids excited about learning and figuring out what they want to do.

Using Thrively as a foundation will be key to getting students thinking about this.

I’d like to integrate this at the start of the Academy experience (9th grade) and then see how this moves along with them.

To start the program I would allow students to express interest and point them in a direction. Thrively is a great tool that could help kids narrow their search and allow them to make goals that mirror a pathwY

I like the use of thrively to assess their strengths along with identify areas of concern so that they may start to explore avenues of higher education and/or career that interest them. I think some students would overlook certain career areas that they may be interested in due to salary, but may change their mind when exposed to data regarding that particular career.

We have been using ProgramFinder for the last year or so since it was introduced to NOCROP. Thrively, while we use it, has quite a bit of resources but can be very clunky without a good connection, which AUHSD suffers from.

Teaching students the importance of money by understanding wants VS needs. Handing out fake money as their classroom paychecks, then having them pay for monthly bills that are fixed like renting their desk, electricity, use of Chromebook. Then additional fees for using the bathroom, not charging Chromebook at the end if class. Paying for missing assignments and recording it all on a check register.

This is a good tool to use for recruiting new students & for helping kids research individual career options.

A lot of my students have already used the Thrively. I will explore the other TalentEd and Program finder to see what they have to offer. I use one in class from the National Restaurant Association that is similar but focuses more on jobs in our industry sector. This opens their eyes to all the jobs available in our pathway but many that they would never even think of.

I would show a couple previews from TalenED to peak student interest. Then I would encourage students to view more previews on their own, eventually moving them into common groups so thet could discuss common interests.

I would have students take the Thrively strengths assessment. Then have students look at the pathway they are interested in and match their strengths to the strengths listed in their pathway. Then students would answer reflection questions.

My class is allowing the students to explore design, engineering, and manufacturing. They learn the 5 Cs as well as the hard skills related to design, engineering and manufacturing. I encourage my students to pursue their interest and bring their passions into the classroom. I could definitely incorporate thrively into my curriculum to allow the students to find were their passions connect to career.

I would have students 1st asses their knowledge and natural skills and strengths. Then I would encourage having knowledge about graduating from HS and introducing the different pathways offered at our HS. Then I would scaffold the project to go into career investigation. And lastly to have them project and voice their likes and dislikes of what they discovered and present a career presentation

Have the students explore careers that they are interested in. Student exploration includes education, salary and duties that they will perform.
