It was also nice to see some change in his teammates, dixie one of his teammates who originally disapproved of him actually told the Phillies manager Ben Chapman that he disapproved of his team's behavior. It was soooo horrible what EVERYONE did to him!!! The Phillie's were really unprofessional just calling out a bunch of racial slurs! And the coach even told the team to be rude to Jackie. As I was reading this, (page 69) I realized they weren't just doing it to people of color, they did it to Jewish people (WHAT HITLER DID!) and to Italian people. It was so stupid we joined WW2 to fight against what was happening even though were we doing it too. (Not as bad because they were killing people in large numbers). I could never do what Jackie Robinson had to do, imagine have people call you horrible names just because of how you LOOK not how you are but how you LOOK!!!!! It was good Ricky told him to get a wife so he has someone to support him who he can talk to anytime. I can't imagine how much pain Jackie went through just because he was different. You would have to be incredibly strong to endure every nasty comment said about you, every time you had to stay somewhere worse than everybody else and not being able to fight back against it. It is good to know that someone on his team (Eddie Stanky) kind of has his back. Maybe his behavior will help the whole team start to act right about people who are different. I can't imagine the pressure, trying to do what you love at the same time of having to worry about racism, his family, and everything else that comes along with being the first African American baseball player, in the major leagues. In this chapter, it shows how much Jackie had grown mentally. Before in The Negro Leagues, if a White person called him a ___, he probably would have knocked them out. But when the Philadelphia player called him that in the dugout, he just ignored it and won the game. Being the first black baseball player, really takes so much. You have to learn to not let things get to you, which I know is hard for me, and also for Jackie. He really took one for the team, and carved the path for all the present colored athletes. If he didn't go through all he did, who knows how segregated our world would be today. It was probably  very hard to contain his anger after all he has been through, but he did. If it wasn´t for Ricky telling Jackie to contain his anger, Jackie would have been violent during the game when the phillies were being so mean to Jackie. In that situation I would have knocked out someone already with something. Jackie got into the major leagues because of him believing in himself and never giving up. He already went through tough things in his life, like being rejected by hotels, baseball teams, and more. Jackie knew that there was going to be a hard time getting respect in the MLB, but he kept going.
