I believe that this is an important period of the teaching and learning theories because the focus now is the social part. Commentary
English, as world English, changes the way we see this language and how we communicate with other people. When teaching English, we have to analyze the purpose of this teaching and how our students are going to use it outside the classroom. It takes the environment as a crucial factor for language acquisition. The input is made available to the learner in the form of stimuli and feedback. From the environment's stimuli, the learning will produce language.

Nativist
Here, the input is just a trigger that enables an internal mechanism. Only exposure to language is not sufficient.

Interactionist
As the author said, we have a third view, the interactions. For that view, the acquisition of language is "the result of an interaction between the learner's mental abilities and the linguistic environment".
