WHAT BECAME OF THE ROYAL FAMILY?

Once the communists had taken over in November 1917, the family became a problem as there were many people who still believed in royalty.

To stop this from happening an order was made for them to be executed. In the summer of 1918 the Romanov family was under arrest house in Ekaterinburg.

During the early morning of the 16 July, at approximately 01:30, Nicholas, Alexandra, their children, their physician and severa servants were taken into the basement and killed. They were told they were going to have a photo taken.

Their bodies were thrown down a series of wells in a forest.

The Bolsheviks, derived from bol'shinstvo, "majority", literally meaning "one of the majority" were a faction of the Marxist Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) which split apart from the Menshevik faction^.

The Bolsheviks were the majority faction in a crucial vote, hence their name. They ultimately became the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

The Bolsheviks came to power during the October Revolution and founded the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic which would later become the chief constituent of the Soviet Union in 1922.

Lenin took a major role in the October Revolution and was the leader of the SFSR from 1917 and then of the Soviet Union from 1922 until his death.

Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, was a Russian peasant, mystic and private adviser to the Romanovs, who became an influential figure in the later years of Tsar Nicholas.

Some people—then and now—believe that Rasputin's personal influence over the Tsarina became so great that it was he who ordered the destinies of Imperial Russia, while she compelled her weak husband to fulfill them.In April 1907 Rasputin was invited this time to see tsarevich Alexei. The boy had received an injury which caused him painful bleeding. It was not publicly known that the heir to the throne had hemophilia. When doctors could not supply a cure, the desperate Tsarina looked for other help. Rasputin was said to possess the ability to heal through prayer.
