This organization has three main goals, to keep carbon in the ground, to help build a new, more equitable low-carbon economy and to pressure the governments into limiting emissions. To keep carbon in the ground they want to revoke social license of the fossil fuel industry, to fight against fossil fuel infrastructure, etc. They want to build new and equitable low-carbon economy by promoting investment in community based sustainability solutions and supporting communities confronting impacts of climate changes and building solutions or an economy free fossil fuels. To pressure the governments into limiting emission they will run local and national campaigns targeting leaders.

Web page: www.350.org

Facebook: 350.org

Instagram: 350org

Postal mail adress:

20 Jay St

Suite 732

Brooklyn, NY 11201

USA

Since coal coal is one of the main emissions of carbon this causes climate disruption, it makes us sick and also causes many premature deaths. This campaign wants to replace dirty coal into energy by mobilizing grassroots activists in local communities and in this way they prevent new plants from being built. Their main goals are retiring one-third of the nation’s more than 500 coal plants by 2020, replacing the majority of retired coal plants with clean energy solutions such as wind, solar, and geothermal, and also keeping coal in the ground in places like Appalachia and Wyoming’s Powder River Basin.
Some of their main achievements were:

Solve the climate crisis primarily through a successful transition to a resource-efficient, clean energy economy that better serves people and nature;

Secure protections for public lands and waters, promote healthy ecosystems and communities, and fight for clean air and water;

Expand opportunities for more people to explore, enjoy, and protect the planet by supporting programs and policies that reach across economic, cultural, and community lines to get people outdoors; and

Build a diverse, inclusive environmental movement that reflects and represents today’s American public, and prioritizes important connections between environmental health and social justice.

This organization of sierra Club Foundation is related with Global Warming in a way they want to promote humans to take care of the environment. They want us to protect public lands and waters. They want us to fight to have a clean air and water. But the official organization started with the name of "The Don't Make a Wave Committee" was officially changed to Greenpeace Foundation in 1972. One of their current campagins is Arctic home. The campaign is based on the problem of the Seismic blasting, which is a process of firing loud sonic explosions through the ocean to find oil. These blasts are damaging all the living creatures in the arctic, such as arctic whales, including narwhals and belugas. Their solution is to install the community’s first solar energy system.
Some of their main achievements:

Stopped nuclear testing in Amchitka, Alaska

Banned commercial whaling after years of campaigning to save the whales

Achieved the majority of German publishers went to chlorine-free paper

Made the Antarctic an officially declared a world park and a 50-year minimum prohibition of all mineral exploitation was agreed upon.

Global ban on Large-Scale-Driftnets

No radioactive waste dump at sea allowed

After the campaigns, Kimberly Clark, the company that makes Kleenex, Scott, and Cottonelle, announced a new policy to ensure that by 2011, 40% of its fiber will be from recycled sources.

Nestle announces a new policy that includes working towards zero deforestation in their supply chain.

The Consumer Goods Forum Board passed a resolution to phase out the extremely potent greenhouse gases, HFC (hydrofluorocarbons) in new refrigeration units starting in 2015, capping off a 20 year campaign to eliminate HFC.

Costco creates a new sustainable seafood policy that will remove 12 red list species from their stores.

This non-governmental organization was founded with the goal of making ecologist changes that improve the world internationally, this includes the greenhouse gases.

The global philosopher: Who should pay for climate change?

BBC NEWS
Most scientists blame humans for the fact the the earth is getting warmer. The majority of nations has promised to make an effort to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere in order to stop the increasing warmness of the earth. A recent study shows that the US and the members of the EU are responsible for 50% of the carbon emissions in the world. The Islands of the Maldives are victims of the damages, since most islands are only 1 meter above sea level. Today, China emits 24% of the green gases released in the atmosphere. In these news article, they propose a solution to the problem by suggesting carbon trading. Countries are given certain allowance to emit substances that rise temperature but if they want exceed the amount given, they can buy allowance from other countries. However, this is not proven to succeed, so they say that the best solution is still to pollute as less as possible.

Temperatures Rise, and We're Cooked

The New York Times
Donald Trump thinks that China has something to do with the climate change since he once tweeted: “ The concept of global warming was created by and for the chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing uncompetitive” the he said he was actually kidding about China, but that he actually don’t believe in global warming. He said he will not do any efforts to support this. One student from Harvard proved that there are more probabiliies that when guys present an exam on a 90ºF there are more probabilities for them to fail that when temperatures are of 72ºF. Right now there are effects of global warming in rising seas, intense hurricanes, etc. Studies prove that there are also effects directly in our bodies and minds. This is not something China are creating, global warming is actually happening.

Calculating the role of lakes on global warming

Science Daily
Most scientists blame humans for the fact the the earth is getting warmer. The global temperatures are rising a lot nowadays, and the question here is, ¿How will lake ecosystems respond? Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute researchers will link computer models of changing weather, emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and water temperature to predict the effect caused by the high temperatures on the lakes. They will link it for more than 1,500 places across the United States. The main goal is to estimate the changes in the metabolism of the lake, and analyse the differences of the lakes based on their region and with this avoid the long term changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide, because if this problem is not solved, the changes of the lake caused by the rising temperatures will be a lot of changes in the role of lies in the global carbon cycle.

Bibliography

Kristof, N.

Eugenia:

We chose this topics because we found interesting learning more about what is happening today with global warming. We are going to investigate about the green gases, because we talked to one of our science teacher and she told us to look for green gases. Our motivations for this project was that there are too many things happening with global warming and if we investigate about it we can learn some ways to prevent global warming to be worst. This cause makes me feel sad since the world is a place we have the opportunity to live in and we as humans doesn’t do much to protect our world. I feel this way because global warming can finish our world and we had the opportunity to take care of it and now that we have severe consequences we are trying to stop it.

Paola:

We chose this topics because we considered as a team that the global warming is affecting the world a lot nowadays, the rising temperatures, our own human actions have a big impact on it, and we realise that as humans, we can make a difference because part of it is our fault, because humans actions, such as throwing the trash on a non corresponding place, burning fossil, cause more greenhouse gasses, and this means that the atmosphere "tickens" and more heat is held in. So we decided to make a change since it is in our hands it motivates us to chose this topic.

This situation makes me sad and disgusted because it doesn’t make sense that we as humans are not making anything to change our own planet, where we live, and I think it makes me sad because there are real options of things that we can do to save the plant or decrease the global warming such as adopt sustainable practices, use the 3R method, which is Reduce, reuse and recycle, drive less or Carpool, reduce waste, avoid products with lot of packaging etc.

Pamela:

This topic was chosen due to the importance it should be given, and the need of its solutions. Nowadays global warming is a problem we should all be concerned about and each day gets bigger and bigger, our goal is to first start by inform ourselves and them to start motivating people, not only near us but our whole society to start for a change, we all need to cooperate in order for this to work and to start seeing a difference in the planet we all own. In each investigation i make i feel more worried and get more motivated to start moving for a change and no spread the word about the importance, because this is not a problem we should take as inconsequential, it's something we should all fear and a lot of people don’t take it seriously or don’t even know about it. It’s time for a change.

Melissa:

Global Warming is a topic that concerns all of humankind. We are slowly killing the earth and if we do not create awareness we may extinguish our only home. Temperatures are increasing significantly and many ecosystems are being destroyed. Natural Disasters like, floods and droughts are being more frequent and are creating awful destruction. Diseases are spreading easier and there are a lot of deaths related to global warming effects. We must fix what we started. The future generations will suffer from our mistakes and some damages are unchangeable. We chose this topic to create awareness. We want to find more about the causes and effect of global warming and green gas effects. We want to find new ways to save the planet and motivate people to support the cause.

Marifer Suarez:
Global warming is a topic that requires more attention, we are talking about our only home without it we can’t live so we are indirectly committing suicide. We are slowly destroying the planet, animals are dying, people are getting sick, resources are banishing, how many signs do we need before we start doing something? We have the proof, we only need the motivation to do it, we should aware people of the gravity of the problem, educate them and show them how they can help, it’s not hard we can start by doing the basic things such as recycling, planting trees, avoid factories and car pollution. We chose this topic because what it’s more important that taking care of our only home.
