There are many volcanoes in the Hawaiian Islands. Magma from the volcanoes burst out onto the ground. The magma then hardens and builds up. When the tectonic plates shift and it creates an earthquake then all the rock slides down and erodes down the volcano.

Weathering and Erosion Today

The definition of erosion has changed over a series of many years. It began when many rocks and substances were moved by wind and/or water. They called this process erosion, but erosion has to start with weathering such as rain. If it rains too much than a river can form and move rocks or other substances to different places. It has come to what it is today by moving around rocks and other substances. It has created hills and mountains in our Earth.

The islands are affected by the rock cycle by having volcanoes. When a volcano erupts magma comes out, but when the magma cools it becomes igneous rocks. When the igneous rock erodes it becomes sedimentary rock. When there is heat and pressure on this rock it becomes metamorphic rock. When metamorphic rocks melt it turns into magma and the volcano erupts again.

This feature can have many people living on it and volcanoes are very common in the Hawaiian Islands. When the volcanoes erupt they can drown the houses in the Hawaiian Islands in magma and once the magma cools it becomes igneous rocks. This is very dangerous for the people who live on one of the Hawaiian Islands.
