I had a great time visiting the school. I loved being able to watch, learn, and participate in the Russian culture! I was not too sure what the expect but it did exceed all expectations. It is awesome to know that there is a school out there trying to help kids maintain their home languages and culture! 

I wish I had more time to speak with the students. That is where I felt I had the best learning experience. They talked about what it was like to go to Russian school, English school, and some other topics that really gave the experience a personal touch. Literacy. I was actually in math class. But if it is similar to how they taught Math I know the educator stated that it is very different from American math. I saw a lot of critical thinking skills being used. I enjoyed seeing how the children value their culture and developing their language. I thoroughly enjoyed speaking to three girls about their experiences outside of the Russian school and their experiences being bilingual in public school.  These conversations were the best part of the experience for me.  I do wish we were able to have more interaction with the students.  With everyone speaking Russian around me,  I also was able to relate to how an ESL student may feel in an English classroom.  ]]> 2018-10-21 03:05:55 UTC https://padlet.com/callopez/Russianschoolvisit/wish/295134942 hsmith91 https://padlet.com/callopez/Russianschoolvisit/wish/295135167 In the math class, the students used pictures and numeric strategies to get the answer to word problems. I thought this was interesting because I see American students doing the same thing. It was difficult to see literacy in the math class other than their drawings. In addition, while observing the dance class, the students were being taught a dance step-by-step. This was a class I feel that I did not witness much literacy in.
