There is pressure on the airline Industry to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels like kerosene and produce greener, renewable fuels to hit 'net-zero' targets set by ICAO. Airlines are using more fuel efficent planes on long-haul routes that are smaller but can fly further (like the Boeing 787). Local sourcing is important to help the local community and reduces food miles. Travel companie who source locally will be seen in a positive light. Ethical sourcing covers the way in which products are produced, including the whole supply chain and ensuring that workers involved are treated and paid fairly. Tourists are also more environmentally aware and will choose to book with companies that are playing their part in reducing their impact on the environment. There is increasing pressure on travel organistaions to become for environmentally resposible. Most companies now have a sustainability policy or stragtegy. Popular destinations like the Maldives are at great risk from rising sea levels due to climate change.
