Advice for My Middle-School Self by Raker, Amy

Answer the following questions:
1. If you could give your middle-school self one piece of advice that affects a student's mental health, or advice about life or school, what would it be?
2. In what way do you think this advice might help them-include your thoughts about how schools and younger people could support teen mental health in general?

That to never listen about what people say about you, don't hang out with mean popular people so you don't feel bullied or even more alone, and be true to yourself.

2. It would help my middle-school self because I hung around the wrong people, I got bullied a lot and I held on to the bullies' words and for the longest time I realized all that happened I shouldn't have hurt that much if only I didn't care, but we live and we learn for the better.

I would say never let others doubt negatively about you, never lose hope to keep going, and don't stress out too often throughout the school year.

2. I would say enjoy the time being there .it’s getting you prepared for high school . with that being said if you are wanting to rush to high school I would stop rushing because once you hit freshman year there is no Turing back .
2) When going to high school it’s supposed to be fun but to some it may be stressful if I do say so my self . But other than that high school also preparers you for adult life or getting a career in collage .

I would just say to watch who I call my friends/hang around most of my time in middle school i moved around alot like from school to school so I couldn't make "friends" so what I did was try to fit in.
2. I can think of a lot of ways this advice can help younger people and teen health in general, one of those are when you try to fit ib bad things can happen you can get in trouble, people can be fake etc.. Being careful with who you call your friends will save people a lot of trouble in middle school or school period i say this because not everyone is gonna listen to what you have to say, and not everyone is gonna care about you either, so finding REAL friends in school might just save you or even make school better.

1. I would tell my middle school self that I shouldn't give in to peer pressure and to pay attention to who I keep as my friends.
2. While in school, especially middle school, you want to fit in for multiple reasons. But, fitting in can be more of a negative than a positive. You may never truly understand yourself if you follow other people's rules. I think one way that schools can support teen mental health better is by actually listening to them. While in middle school, I often saw students not getting the proper help that they needed, despite reaching out to teachers and staff at the school.

1. You should be careful of the people are you, they will try to pull you into bad habits. Do not talk to the wrong people. 2. Some people around you will use their mental health for attention and make you believe you have these problems too, I suggest having a staff or teacher you could ask to see if they think you need to see the doctor about it. If someone is saying they do try to talk to the if they want to talk. Schools could have friends in each groups that are their to talk to other students because sometimes students do not want to talk to the adults about what's going on, so i think it would be good to have a friend to talk to.

In middle school I knew right from wrong, I was even the friend to to tell my childish friends to chill or to not do certain things. I also, put myself in a few situations that may have embarrassed me, made me uncomfortable, or made the girl I am today disappointed. In reality we all know what we want for our future, what it takes to get there, we know our true characters and being another person or changing yourself to be a certain way is valid in the world but, not valid enough to get you somewhere, help you get a step further or even who you want to be.

2. I was so pressured by the feeling of high school and the reality of everything till the point I was stressed. I would tell myself to stress less and enjoy every moment cause you can't take anything back.
2. I think this advice would help them more than they realize. In middle school all you hear is teachers talk about how hard high school is and you have to be prepared and put in double the work. Yeah wrong high school is mentally challenging but it is actually a breeze. Teen mental health is not taken serious because we are looked at as just kids nothing else. Teen mental health would be taken seriously if we were taken seriously.

If I could give my middle school self one piece of advice that affects a student's mental health it would be to take as many high school class in middle school as you can because, once you get to high school you will have more free time and not have to worry about a lot of the classes you already took. Doing this will definitely help you be a lot less stressed in high school.

1. I would tell myself it's better letting someone go and be more confident of you becoming.
2. This will help letting go of someone who has hurt/betray you because sometimes holding all that hurt in will affect mental health or well being. Also being more confident in yourself will give you the validation in yourself that you been trying to look for in somebody else that don't have you best interest in life, that will not be around for the rest of your life so you really just wasting the best version of yourself for a nobody.

If I could give my middle school self one piece of advice it would be to not stress yourself out about what you're going to pursue after high school. It will come naturally.
I think this advice would help other middle schoolers because that statement is always heard but never talked about. Not everyone knows right away what they want to do after they graduate high school. College is always the first thing thrown at middle schoolers but never getting a trade, starting a business, or going straight into your field.

Don't care about anyone else opinion about you, because its your life they're just in it. Do it while you're still young, you never know when your time is going to run out. Don't let your insecurities get the best of you, you're beautiful. I would give someone that advice because this generation is cruel and its easy for someone to break your character

I would let myself know that it'll be okay, you don't have to excel at school. Sometimes it gets down to the point where you must choose between a bad grade and your mental health. It's okay to take that bad grade there's always another assignment but never another you. I think in middle school especially I needed to hear this, its very important to understand that regardless of situation you can be selfish when it comes to your mental well being. I think schools should absolutely encourage mental health above all else, the top priorities should always be the students themselves and I believe its the lack of this that damages our ability to put ourselves first above all else very early on.
