There was a series of episodes where Reid had met a girl named Maeve, who proved to be just as smart and nerdy as him. However, due to previous problems of being stalked on her end, her and Reid try to keep their relationship a secret by only speaking over the phone a minimal amount of times per week. Reid starts showing emotion for her, but still feels somewhat hopeless, impatient, and concerned about the situation.

Id- His id tells him to talk to her more and more, and that maybe it’s okay to meet her because of their love for each other.

Ego- Tells him that he can protect her and fix everything so they can be together.

Superego- Tells him no, and it's not safe due to his job and her previous situation of being stalked.

Basic Needs- Tends to not worry about this category as much as others, but somehow still seems to have these fundamentals.

Safety Needs- Spencer's job as an FBI agent is to help the world feel safe. By him doing what he loves, he's able to give that sense of security to people around him, as well as himself.

Love and Belonging- Spencer seems to be very happy and open, but deep inside it is obvious he feels extremely isolated and lonely. He feels like no one truly understands what goes through his mind and how he struggles with finding the right answers.

Esteem- Spencer lacks in self esteem. He often doesn’t give himself enough credit and questions almost everything he does. However, he does seem some glimmer of hope when his peers, especially his two biggest supporters JJ and Morgan remind him of how good of a job he does.

Self- Actualization- Spencer pushes himself beyond belief to reach the highest level of knowledge and perfection. Everything he does is for the common good and to help fix the wrong around him.

Ideal self- He wishes to be the best he can. He wants to help the people he's close to in any way he can. He wants his motivation to be unlike anything else, and wants to find the answers to the things that are surface level.

Actual Self- Spencer's actual self is pretty close to his ideal. He does push himself in everything he does, whether it be his job, supporting the ones he loves, or taking care of his schizophrenic mother. Truth be told, without Spencer as a part of that BAU team in the show, they wouldn’t be what they are. Spencer is portrayed to be the heart and soul of the BAU, but he just doesn’t realize it.

Conscientiousness- (97%) I agree with this because he is a very careful and considerate person. He thinks about what’s important and does everything to the best of his ability.

Agreeableness- (83%) Accurate because he is a friendly person who always tries to see the best in people and situations, and will fight for what's right.

Neuroticism-(62%) I think this is accurate because there are a few times where we see him show emotion, but for the most part he stays calm and collected.

Openness- (96%) This is very accurate because his imagination and how smart he is is what makes him so interesting in the show. He has a very high intellect and is always the first one to see things in a different way then others.

Extraversion- (50%) Being right in the middle sounds right. He is very open and social, but if he feels a certain way, he shuts down.

He devotes himself to his job in every way possible to solve the cases and find peace for victims and their families.

Even- tempered- Throughout the show, we very rarely see Spencer act out of character. His mellow yet prominent personality stays in tact for the most part. He thinks things through logically and carefully, and seems to be able to keep his composure in even the most stressful and scary situations.

Controlled- Spencer doesn’t let his emotions get the best of him. He pushes through things and thinks logically, making careful and controlled decisions. He doesn’t make risky decisions and tends to have a sense of security and peacefulness in what he does, regardless of the severity of the situation.

Spencer reacts based off of certain situations around him. He is always alert and ready for whats next.

Coming in as a rookie, he learned from watching and listening to others, learning new materials, working and solving cases, etc. Spencer learned how to be as involved in his job and environment as he is through the people and outside influences around him.

I think he would be a little different because obviously working for the FBI is a huge job that takes a lot of skill and dedication. However, Spencer's high IQ and ability to retain information as well as he does didn’t come from being in the BAU. It came from years of study and his love for learning so I think although he may be a little different, he would still be the same genius Spencer he is portrayed as in the show.

Self esteem: I would describe Spencer's self- esteem as pretty low. Although we as the viewers can see how vital and important he is, he can’t. In the show, we see certain cases get to Spencer a little more than usual. It’s during these times where he feels like what he does is not good enough, or often finds himself wondering why he doesn’t feel “normal.” In times like these, it’s normally his colleague Morgan that lifts him up and reminds him of his importance to not only the BAU, but to everyone else around him.

Self-serving bias: Spencer is probably the only character in the show that doesn’t portray a self-serving bias. Regardless of his IQ and experience, Spencer never puts himself above anyone else regardless of who they are. Even during times where he’s having conversations with some of the show's most elaborate unsubs, he still communicates with them as if they are completely on his level. He does not peg himself as a more important or vital piece of the BAU than anyone else is. His self- serving bias is pretty non-existent.

High Self- Efficacy:There was a case the team was working on of two missing boys. The unsub had ultimately been found, but the boys were not. The team took turns trying to pry the answer out of the unsub but no one had luck due to her high level of narcissism. Spencer however, believed that through his high IQ and ability to have a read for people, he would be able to crack her. Surely enough, after only a few moments of Spencer feeding into her game and playing mind games, she unintentionally told Spencer where the boys were taken.

Low Self- Efficacy: A time Spencer shows low self-efficacy is after his girlfriend Maeve is kidnapped. Spencer and his team work endlessly to find her, but Spencer's thoughts start to get the best of him. Feeling like they were stuck at a standstill, Spencer starts to shut down. Once again, it was his colleague Morgan who tried to pull him out of the funk he was stuck in. Spencer felt like he failed not only himself and his team, but also Maeve for not being able to protect her. Throughout the whole process, Spencer starts to feel worthless and as if he has lost his purpose.

Denial- In the show, Spencer's mother suffers from a rare, intense form of Schizophrenia. Spencer grew up with only his mother and didn’t live the normal life of a child. Instead of being a curious, adventurous, risk taker like most boys are at a young age, Spencer stayed home with his mother the majority of the time. As Spencer got older, he himself realized that he shows similar signs to certain things his mother does. The way he thinks and the way his mind reacts to certain things almost mirrors him mothers in certain ways. He even thought to seek out professional help and opinion, and even after his suspicions were confirmed, Spence chose to deny it. He never wanted to be like his mother in that way, so by denying the fact that he may suffer from it, he almost convinces himself it's not a possibility.

Rationalization- In the show, one of Reids closest friends is another agent named Jennifer. Spencer and Jennifer start from the beginning of the showe together as single individuals. Spencer realizes he started developing feelings for her, but proves to be too late when Jennifer marries a man named Will. Even though Spencer knows he will always have her as his best friend and biggest supporter, he still can’t help but blame himself for not loving her first. Even though it’s clear throughout the show that his feelings for her never fade, he rationalizes them by knowing that she is happy with her husband and the life they built together. Ultimately Spencer rationalizes it because he knows he will always have Jennifer in his life, even if it isn't necessarily the way he wanted.
