At the beginning of every school year, it is safe to assume that most students, including myself, are very overwhelmed. Thomas made an interesting point in the beginning of his video about burnouts. Overly ambitious adults and students put too much on their plates, and eventually burnout because it is simply too much to handle. I find myself dealing with this quite often. With a combination of school, work, friends, and finding any time in between, it is not an easy thing to balance. Thomas suggests doing what he calls a "reset sprint", which is taking time to reorganize your life to find that balance once again. I have found that keeping organized has really helped me through the school year. Starting the week with all of my assignments listed out is a great way to visualize and give yourself an idea of what's ahead. This method really helps with the feeling of being overwhelmed, and will ultimately leave you feeling better overall.

Being overwhelmed and procrastinating seem to go hand in hand. I tend to procrastinate my work heavily because of how easily my phone or anything around me can be a distraction. I might sit down and concentrate for a solid 10 minutes before picking up my phone again. This is a pretty bad habit of mine and I am sure that other peers deal with the same thing. I found a couple of tips helpful from this video that I will be using in the future. These of which include, turning on timers for a set amount of time to knock out work. Putting passwords on computers and other devices to force you from becoming distracted and wasting time. A good majority of his video focused on ways to not distract yourself on the computer, which usually is not an issue for me. However, I will be taking his advice on other aspects, such as admitting to procrastinating, and setting aside a certain amount of time to get your work done.

Staying on task can be difficult, and a struggle for many. It can be really hard to stay focused or stay on task without the temptations of other things getting in the way. In this video, Thomas mentions "self discipline" and keeping an awareness of your work while doing it. I find these tips to be helpful because often times I can get distracted, and my brain won.t remind me to stay on task. Reminding yourself and prioritizing your work can help in so many ways. It correlates to the other two videos by easily becoming overwhelmed if you get off track, which usually sprouts from getting distracted on the internet. Thomas discusses two states of mind, scatter focus and hyper focus. Hyper focus requires a quiet, distraction-free environment, where your brain is concentrated on one specific thing. This state of mind is helpful, but it only lasts so long. Eventually, your brain gets tired of focusing on one thing, this is where scatter focus comes into play. Scatter focus allows your mind to wander and it brings out more of your creativity. Switching back and forth with these two focuses can bring a healthy balance to completing work in a stress free way.
