It's a small town in Colorado enclosed by mountains. We passed over the continental divide when we were driving. This is a trip we make almost every summer. Aspen is like my family’s second home. Its so special because its open year round and there’s so much to do with and without snow. In the town, you can walk around by yourself anytime. The last murder there was done by ted bundy. Its amazingly safe. But sadly, every time we go, we are literally the only indian people in a 50 mile radius. I’m exaggerating because every year I have seen more and more Indian families walking around the town. There’s hiking, rafting, skiing in the winter, fishing, and so much more. I've taken part in almost all of those activities over the time i went to aspen. I was surprised when my parents announced that we were going on this trip because of coronavirus. At this point only my parents and brother were vaccinated. I had to walk around with a mask on at all times. We stayed there for about 4 weeks. Two weeks with family friends and two weeks with just my family. We celebrated my birthday and my mother’s birthday in aspen. Mine is August 16th and my mother’s is August 8th. I turned 14 in that summer. After our family friends left i was a bit bored so I started working out. The high altitude improves your stamina drastically. Say, if you can run a marathon in the mountains then you can basically cross the US. There was a basketball court that I biked to every day. It was a beautiful setting with mountains, flowers, and even a river. I would work on my basketball skills for about an hour or 2 every day. After 1 week I started trying to dunk and I started to touch the rim. I never got to dunking. But I left Aspen happy. Covid affected everyone in my family. But for us it was an excuse to spend more time together. Through the pandemic I’ve built a better relationship with everyone in my family, even my dog! It was a bit hard because we couldn’t go anywhere for months. The summer was also a bit of a bummer because me and my friends barely got to see each other. It was ok though because we could all connect through xbox and play games together. It's May 5th of the next year and in the school year I’ve seen my friends in the school year more than summer. In the school year, online school has been very hard. At the end of 7th grade, finals were canceled and I thought online school was the easiest thing on earth. If I’m being truly honest, I didn’t pay attention at that time. I was watching a show called community. It's a comedy with Joel McHale and Ken Jeong just to name a few of the actors. But the first quarter of 8th grade was very different. I had to pay attention and really try to focus. I usually was an A student, but online my grades dropped to B’s and C’s. It had been hard but now I’m almost done with the year. It was amazing coming back to school because I got back the little things that I missed so much when I was online. Online school was the lowest point of my life at this point. It made me realize that disasters of amazing proportions can affect everyone on earth.

My family went to Dallas for Mother’s Day. Two years after I was born my family and I moved to Dallas where i lived for 9 years. We have a history there with family friends, that’s why we went. I got to catch up with a lot of old friends and meet new people that had moved to Dallas. I had a friend in particular that I slept over with. His name is Oliver. He and I were friends in 7 of the 9 years that I lived there. I was a bit nervous to see him for the first time because I hadn’t seen him in so long. I was nervous since he and I would obviously have changed, but it was great. I walked into his house and there was no awkwardness. It was like we just picked up where we left off. He played such a big role in my childhood. He shaped me in a way. So it was amazing to finally see him again. We spent time catching up then we went out. He had a lot of the same friends that I had when I lived there, so it was cool to catch with them and see how they changed. That was Friday and Saturday. Sunday was Mother’s Day. We got together with a family that we had known since before I was born. We went to brunch where I got French toast. A - Their parents were super strict on coronavirus and they wouldn’t let them leave the house, or let anyone in.

A - it was pretty bad. It was devastating to not go outside basically. It felt bad to be controlled by something I can't control.

Q - If you could go back in time and relive the year that we just had, with no pandemic, would you do it?

A - Definitely.
