         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Before introducing a new concept in class, the teacher can assign students texts, media pieces, or creative projects that will briefly acquaint them with the material.</li><li>Teachers might require students to record their reflections, observations, or questions about the preview homework to discuss in class the next day.  </li></ul><div><strong>Technology Enhancement</strong></div><ul><li>Screencasting Software (Jing, ScreenChomp, Educreations, TouchCast)<ul><li>Create multimedia screencasts of new content that students can view before the start of a lesson.</li></ul></li><li>Multimedia Recording Tools<ul><li>Use digital video tools on tablets, smartphones, or document cameras to create video tutorials that allow students to preview new content or skills.</li></ul></li><li>Prerecorded Video Lessons<ul><li>These videos can enhance student engagement in preview homework.</li><li>These videos can come from content websites (Khan Academy).</li><li>Students can post their comments about these videos to show their understanding, which can also encourage whole-class discussion.</li></ul></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Pushes students to use higher-order thinking skills to develop their understanding of the content.</li><li>Such cognitive skills include comparing and contrasting, classifying, creating analogies, and evaluating the content.</li><li>Teachers should confirm that students are well-versed in the content before assigning homework to deepen knowledge.</li></ul><div><strong>Technology Enhancement</strong></div><ul><li>Online Scavenger Hunts (TED)<ul><li>These activities prompt students to explore, compare, and contrast, classify, or evaluate content-related videos, images, or tutorials.</li><li>Once again students can compare and contrast videos on content websites and critique the quality and helpfulness of each video.  </li><li>Once they have completed the process, then they can create a rubric or scale for evaluating the resources they find and consider ways they can be improved.</li></ul></li><li>Multimedia Tools<ul><li>They can use these to gather non-linguistic representations of knowledge and create visual analogies.</li><li>Students can use devices such as cameras on tablets, or smartphones to create collages that relate to the instructional content.  </li><li>Then students could use websites like Pinterest to categorize the images.  </li><li>Using the class website, students could post hyperlinks to their visual collages.</li><li>Finally, students can post constructive comments on their classmates visual analogies.</li></ul></li></ul>]]></description>
