The Palmer Raids that were conducted by the US in 1919-1920. They tried to use these raids to arrest anarchists, communists, and racial leftists. The majority of the ones they tried to arrest eventually were subsequently deported.

Sacco and Vanzetti

The biggest thing that they accomplished was they tried to expose injustice in the 1920s. These two fellas were involved with and were the defendents in a controversal murder trial in the great state of Massachusetts. The trial that they were involved in was the murderers in south Braintree, Mass. on April 15,1920

Prohibition-18th Amendment

Prohibition in the 1920s was a big deal because people wanted their beer. They tried very hard to get their drinks even though it was banned to make it, transport it, and sale it. Even though that all of that was illegal they still were able to round up any kind of beverage in this time period.

Scopes Monkey Trial

This trial was mainly focused around john scopes for teaching evolution in Dayton, TN. He was eventually fined up to $100 for this act in his classroom. The scopes trial represents the clash between traditional and modern values of the 1920s.

Flappers

Flappers in this day and time was something special with everything that they did to cause attention. They dressed up in short skirts and bobbed their hair and danced to jazz music. They flauntd their disdain for what back then was considered as acceptable behavior but nowadays it woudnt have flown.

Skyscrapers ranged from 10 to 20 floors making them almost 500 feet tall. The very first skyscraper was the Home Life Insurance building which was nearly 150 ft high. The tallest building in the world is 2,717 feet tall.

Airplanes

The airplanes in this time period were a little diffferent because the monoplane had one set of wings, and the biplanes had two sets stacked on top of one another. They used to only hold at max 20 passengers and only got up to about 3,000 feet in the air for crusing altitude. It was also quicker to travel by train when these planes were first invented because they were so slow.

Radios

In this day and age radios were the only way to hear news, breaking headlines, and political speeches. Around this time radios only sold for $150 and had to finance becasue it was a big purchase for them. A cool fact about the radios was that not all stations could air all news all the time.

Sports

In the 1920s the most famous sport was baseball, many played baseball for fun and used any of their freetime playing. A major part of the 1920s sport of baseball was major because the athlete Babe Ruth. Babe was a awesome player and made alot of history during the 1920s and was a major part in making this sport popular.

Cars in the 1920s

The first vehicle that was invented back then was Henry Fords Model T that let everyone get around faster and easier. Cars created jobs and created a large role in sustaining the economic prosperity in the 1920s. Cars were only available to the upper class and you had to be wealthy to be able to get a vehicle.

The advertisements in the 20s were mainly focused around motor cars, vacuum cleaners, and washing machines. During this time this was the only way to spread the word about new inventions and products available to buy. The advertisements also stimulated the economic boom of the 1920s.

Gangs in 1920s

The main thing that the Gangs did was they continued to buy and sell alcohol to speakeasies after prohibition was already put into place. Al Capone was the main one that sold to speakeasies and made over 60 million dollars a year just selling products containing alcohol. Gang members wore tie clips, collar pins, armbands, smart ties and round collars were all a part of the fit and were worn by most Gang members.

The Charleston

The Charleston in the 1920s was a big popular dance that most people did when jazz music was on. The dance is based from the "Juba", it was a dance that was brought through african americans, and was performed by dock workers in the 1920s. The dance was very controversial because most of the time it was considered boisterous and indecent at times.

The Teapot Dome Scandal was a bribery involving the president Warren G Harding from 1921-1923. In the 1920s it was a leasing of federal oil reserves by secertary of the interior Albert Fall. It happened in two places Elk Hills, Cal. and Teapot Dome Wyoming.

19th Amendment

The 19th Amendment Finally gave the women the right to vote after years of rioting and prtesting that they wanted to vote. Alabama and Georiga both ratified to the 19th amendment and Louisiana and Maryland tried to urge against this amendment. The 19th amendment by definition means that the US should not denied or abridged on the account of sex.

Louis Armstrong

Louis was a famous Jazz trumpet player in the 1920s and he was also known for his voice in the songs he wrote and performed. He also married 4 different times and had hundreds of affairs but yet none of them produced any of children. Aside from his performing he wrote two autobiographies, and many different articles throughout his lifetime.

Speakeasies

Speakeasies were the different places that gang members and different people from the outside to come and buy different beverages. The name came about becasue they were told to "speak easy" about the different places selling alcohol to the public. During this time they had to be very very secret about where the places were and try their best to not get caught

Margaret Sanger

Mrs. Sanger was a big educator for legalizing birth control and making it available to women. With her doing this for helping with birth control it led to the legalization wide spread usage of contraceptives. The birth control that she made more important was a big deal because it helped protect the young aldults and their familys.

Isolationism

Isolationism was the national policy of avoiding political economic entanglements with other countries. It helped The U.S. with european and asian conflicts and non entanglement in international politics. For an example China tried to cut themselves off from the country and then tried to not be associated from that point forward.

Abduction of Lindbergh baby

He was kidnapped on March 1, 1932 around 9.00pm from a nursery near their home in New Jersey. When they had located the baby he didn't have either hands, the right leg, or one of his arms. The body was later located in the woods not far from their home a few days later.
