Include literature that is created by and represents marginalized and under represented groups of people(Colorin Colorado).
Additive Approach- This allows the teacher to keep the curriculum that already exists, but adds into it multicultural representations, such as critical thinking and reflection opportunities(Banks,n.d.).
Have Writing experiences that include students to share their family background and experiences. Allow them to share their experiences in small groups or in a cultural fair, where they represent their culture with foods, photos, and artifacts.
Include guest speakers or video resources of other people sharing their stories. Allow students the opportunity to ask questions and reflect on the speakers information.

Examples of Multicultural Literature: Life of Pi by Yann Martel and the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

Case Study Examples: Student who is a minority is being called names by other students.

Student who is an ESL student and having a hard time connecting with other students who are not.

Historical Events: 1964 Civil Rights Act, 1965 Head Start Begins,1972 Title X, and 1975 Education for All.

Category 2: Culturally Responsive Teaching Methods

Culturally Responsive Teaching Methods are when a teacher observes the differing cultures and backgrounds that each student in his or her class are bringing into the learning space. They use that to leverage their learning environment and help bring meaning to their learning using each students background.

1.Activate Students Knowledge- asking students questions, such as "What do you know about...?" or "What do you want to know?" We can create a list together as the teacher writes on chart paper or using the document camera so all students can see.

Help Students understand why they are learning what they are learning: Create meaning to their learning. These can be through learning objectives that are posted and assessed formatively and summativly.

Help students find their voice and take ownership to their learning environment. Students are able to share in small and large group settings.
Build a classroom community that helps each student feel valued.
Use resources that include differing cultures and backgrounds that are accessible to students.
(Burnham,2024). These can be accessed through students chrome books by watching selected you tube videos.

Category 3: Fostering a MultiCultural Classroom Environment

To foster a MultiCultural Classroom Environment, I will do the following things:

Have Students bring a picture of their family to have hung in our classroom.
Each student takes a turn to be the featured friend where they bring pictures and artifacts from their life to share their story of their family and home life. They can also share a food their family enjoys if they'd like to.
Include books about different cultures in all areas of the room that are on display for students to be able to look at. Rotate these books often so that students are introduced to new cultures regularly. Also include other languages in the labeling of certain classroom objects such as door, pencil sharpener, desk, book shelf, table, etc.
Invite guest speakers to come in from other cultures. These could be family members, school employees, or community members. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions and reflect by writing about their learning.

Category 4: Engagement with Families and Community

To promote a community where families are engaged, I will do the following:

Host a cultural night where families are invited to come together at school and bring a family favorite food to eat. It will be a potluck style and families will have the opportunity to converse with one another.
Picnic at a local park where families are invited to come and build relationships.
Guest speakers will be invited in to a parent night where they speak on community engagement and friendship.
A parents night out where students are able to come to school for an evening so that parents are able to drop their kids off and have a 3 hour time span to do whatever they need to do. This could be done around the holidays and high school students along with faculty could facilitate games that are fun and interactive to create community development.
