         <description><![CDATA[<p>One thing that surprised me in this article is the eye-opening statistics. With advancing medical area and outreach, I was not surprised the maternal mortality rate decreased from 2022-2023, but I was shocked that even in that decrease, black maternal mortality rate increased. There is a significant gap between communities, most of them averaging 10-14% mortality rate, with black women over 50%.</p><p>This tells me that healthcare access isn’t as easily obtained by this part of the population as the rest of the country. The CDC states in this article, “more than 80% of pregnancy- related deaths in the United States are preventable.” Innocent lives are suffering due to the lack of support given in these communities.</p><p>I loved how the article highlights options to decrease this statistic. something as simple as just listening can make such a difference.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

         <title>Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Mental Health Care</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>In the United States, minorities are more likely than white people to put off or fail to seek mental health treatment. If minority patients do seek this treatment they are less likely to receive the best available care for depression and anxiety than white people.</p><p><br/></p><p>During the rise in treatment of psychiatric disorders between 1990-2003, African Americans were only 50% as likely to receive psychiatric treatment than their white counterparts.</p><p><br/></p><p>These disparities show that members of minority groups have either lower or equivalent rates of mental disorders compared to white people, with a lower lifetime risk of these disorders but higher levels of developing a specific disorder.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
