What is the dumbest law you saw? Why do you think it is dumb? What is the intent of the law? Where is it from?

Horses are forbidden to eat fire hydrants in Iowa. I guess horses were destroying too many fire hydrant paint jobs(?) Never have I ever seen a horse eat metal but I guess the lead paint was bad for them. I'm not sure how much damage they can cause but it must have been a real problem back when horses were actually a form of transportation.

Maine. Older states tend to have more laws, most of them old fashioned or oddly specific. Laws were seemingly easier to enact in the past, especially when new states had smaller populations and were eager to pass new laws.

Why do we have so many dumb laws? Do you think this is a problem? Why or why not?

People in power may find seemingly small issues annoying enough to pass legislature to hinder it. States that find it easy to pass laws may take action on a turn of a dime. The majority of these laws are not enforced, but citiens may find it easy to charge people if they felt they have been wronged and could possibly use these dumb laws to persecute them. I don't think it is a problem since they are usually swept under the rug, although no legal action was taken to repeal them for good they might as well be non existent.
