We were fighting at Marne. We had a plan to beat the British armies, so i tried to follow along with this plan. We were to counter attack the German armies, and force them to retreat. I followed our plan and helped the counter attack from six of the French armies, and my regiment, the British expeditionary force. Once we did that, we startedfighting in trenches though. The life in their was hard and dangerous. I had a friend take this photo of us waiting in the trench. Then we got pushed back into, and we got forced into a general retreat for everyone. But eventually our armies caused the General of the Germans to suffer from a nervous breakdown. After this happened his subordinates ordered a retreat. We had beaten both the first and second armies for Germany.

At the beginning of this month, the French attempted to out flank the Germans. Suddenly, the Germans tried to outflank the French. And it went round and round for four days. The Friday after, the Germans besieged one of our fortified cities. They started with artillery and broke through the first ring of forts. They did this despite the arrival of the Royal Navy divisions arrival. They continued the siege from the west and eventually overtook the city. Last month on the nineteenth, the Germans invaded the city of Flirey. The French sent reinforcements that were then beaten by the Germans. Later the French tried again and and couldn’t. I got a picture of the besieged fort that we had.

It is Christmas, and we are all celebrating. On both sides of No Mans Land, there are bells ringing. We have agreed to have a truce. Both sides can enjoy their Christmas Day without worry. All of the French, English, and Russian soldiers have received Princess Mary boxes. In mine, I had some candy, smokes, some pencils. All of us received a picture of Princess Mary. I met some Germans soldiers in no mans land, and we played together. We got to play together and sing carols. At the end of the day we had a carol sing off with the Germans.

We have landed in Gallipoli Turkey. We have started fighting against the Ottoman Empire. They are currently winning. I’m afraid we may lose this part of the war. Hopefully we can push back and win. We barley made it onto land. We could only use one plane for spotting our bombardment. The weather conditions set us back a few days. The area of bombardment was their artillery. The plane we used was a Short Type 36. I hope this campaign wasn’t useless to the allies. If it is, I only hope I can return home.

Yesterday, our invasion failed. It was our third attempt for this assault. I was positioned on the front line. We were trying to invade Achi Baba. Achi Baba was the Ottoman Empire main defensive position. About 6 thousand of our troops were lost. The Ottoman’s casualties were higher though, about 9000 to 10000. Today, the Ottoman Empire counter attacked. Due to our failed attempt Achi Baba, they had a chance to strike. Then Lieutenant George Raymond Dallas Moor rallied my regiment to retake a critical trench we had lost. This action caused the rest of the British forces to stand their ground. I started righting this entry as soon as I could after this so the details would be fresh on my mind. The Ottomans struck with infantry, and then started using artillery. Once we had retrieved the trench managed to stop the attack though.

Yesterday, we attempted to take the city of Tigris. Our plan was to attack from the land. My leaders expected that the Ottoman leaders will expect an attack from the river. But before we even started the invasion, we had some people desert their division with the plans. We didn’t learn this until later though. What we also learned was that the Ottoman leader didn’t even think that they were they real plans. They still thought we would attack from the river. When we started the invasion, we started with taking out their major trenches. We were intercepted by a small group of Ottoman soldiers on the way there. Finally, at the end of the day, we managed to take the city of Tigris.

On the 21st this month we began the battle of Verdun. The Germans began with heavy artillery. They shot many shells at a major front. Someone said they probably shot about 1 million shells at us. They had probably 25 very heavy artillery. There rumbles were so loud we heard them from 20 kilometers away. These guns were firing on the forts of Verdun. Then the Germans advanced on us using flamethrowers and hand grenades. They killed the last of the remaining defenders that hadn’t retreated. They kept advancing and taking all of our most important forts. They managed to take many prisoners and all of her forts.
