In the title list LAB TIME / GROUP NAME / last name, first name of each member in photo from left to right.Everyone will meet with their groups this week during lab time. For this PADLET SUBMIT a short description of your progress. Did you refine your question? What data will you collect? Who are some key players you will need to complete your project? What is some useful research your group members found? Snap a pic of your group with the Double peace kiss sign! And have fun!

We calculated the amount of rainfall that can be captured from the roof of the building to be 12,135 gallons. This would fill a 55 gallon rain barrel 220 times in a year. More than enough water for 25 hemlock trees which need 485 gallons per tree or 1.33 gallons per day. NEXT we shall install a rain barrel or cistern and irrigation tape.

Our revised question is, "How many water bottles are saved in relevance to students in Donovan, and how would this compare to the whole campus?" The total number of water bottles saved to date it 36,575 water bottles. We will collect the water bottle counts every week for a month to see the increase in amount of water bottles saved. Some key players could be the President of the school to ask her how she saves on water bottles, and let us know who else we can talk to. We each articles from Duke, Syracuse, Penn State, and Virginia Tech about how much these refilling stations have saved the colleges.

Our refined question is "If recycling is made more convenient and accessible to the residents of the suites, will they increase their amounts of recycling?" We will survey the students of the suites asking about their current recycling habits and their willingness to recycle more if it becomes more available. After surveying we will test this by observing and measuring increases or decreases in recyclable objects in the bins by the trash dumpsters. Some of the key people we could complete our project with are RA's and RD's in the building to help us getting the survey out along with encouraging it. Some useful research we found is that of other recent recycling changes in various colleges across America like the University of Idaho that is similar to ours.

Our new and improved question is, "Would students, faculty, and staff be willing to add a small $6 Green Fee to our tuition and fees per semester? If so, what are some sustainability project ideas students, faculty, and staff have that this Green Fee could go towards?" We will conduct a survey that will potentially be sent out through the UNG Dahlonega campus-wide email, asking 1) If students, faculty, and staff would be willing to pay a Green Fee, and 2) If those who answer yes would be interested in being on a Green Fee Committee. In addition to our survey, we will also conduct in-person interviews asking 1) If the interviewee knows what a Green Fee is, and 2) Some ideas they have about how to use the money collected from the Green Fee. We plan to meet with a psychology professor to learn how to ask questions efficiently that will give us unbiased, honest feedback. We will also need to speak with those in charge of survey-emails in order to get our survey approved and out to the students and staff. Each member of our group did research ranging from Green Fee studies, to budgets, to other universities who have recently implemented a Green Fee, such as at GCSU and GSU.

We will measure the actual energy consumption of the treadmills and the unused machines, and from there calculate the total and individual energy output of them. We will also use the staff at the Rec Center to estimate the amount of time that the different machines are being used on a daily and weekly basis. Through our research, we have found the energy consumption of other gyms and of specific machines which we can compare to our project. We also found articles about gyms in England that actually provided power instead of just spending it.

Our question was refined to "How can the students of UNG be made aware of the environmental benefit of carpooling, and what would compel them to utilize it more to increase fuel efficiency?" We spoke with Parking Services and discussed with them the number of commuters on both the Dahlonega campus and all four UNG campuses combined, based on the number of commuter stickers purchased on each campus. This gives us an idea of approximately how many students are commuters, and comes to show that implementing carpooling would be beneficial. In speaking with the staff at parking services we also found out that there is a specific commuter only parking lot at the Gainesville campus. More research into this may come to show that it would be something we could not only implement here in Dahlonega, but be a tool that encourages students to utilize carpooling.

We asked how many commuters there were on campus, how many cars were registered through parking services, and how many cars were registered on all five campuses as a whole. With the numbers they told us we were are able to see the ratio of total number of students vs. the amount of cars and shows us how many students are truly utilizing carpooling. The question we asked based on this knowledge and our idea of saving fuel efficiency is "How can the students of UNG be made aware of the environmental benefit of carpooling, and what would compel them to utilize it more to increase fuel efficiency?"
