Juxtapose radically different visual culture images to represent a recent news story about the social differences visually.

Hi Everyone!

In this Padlet exercise I would like you to practice the PostModern Principal of juxtaposition. As a reminder, juxtaposition is defined as the act or instance of placing two elements close together or side by side. This is often done in order to compare/contrast, or to show similarities or differences between the two. Please select two images from visual culture that are related (or could be related) to a social issue that means something to you. Then, write 3-5 brief sentences explaining your reasoning. Comment on at least one other students post.

Once your images and sentences have been posted, be sure to look over this checklist to make sure all your assignment bases are covered!

1. Did you include at least two images in your comparison?
2.Did you write at least 3-5 sentences explaining your comparison?
3. Would someone better understand the concept of juxtaposition after reading your sentences?
4. Did you comment on at least one other student's post? (more comments are always welcome!)
5. Are your comments kind and meaningful?
6. Did you write your name on your post so we know who has commented?
7. Do you feel like you understand the concept of juxtaposition better after this exercise?

The guiding philosophies and purpose between the two are starkly different yet politicians use religion and gun rights to push their political agendas and bully followers for donations. Religion and spirituality, specifically christianity, follow teachings of nonviolent individuals that sought to enlighten those around them while firearms are intended to inflict harm and bring violence in order to feel in control. These concepts are so different yet ironically we frequently see them side by side. (Windy)

Here is am using the two images provided. These two concepts have been battling since the time of human and consumption. When comparing nature with pollution I think about aspects such as the pureness of nature mixed with the unnaturalness of pollution. Nature is something of beauty and discovery. Nature is something that gets ruined and dirtied by pollution. Nature is killed by pollution all over this planet. These two concepts interact each and everyday but couldn't be the furthest thing from similar to each other. Was is beauty, one is ugly yet they are forced to interact each and everyday.

Of this set of images, i compared nature and pollution. The stark contrast from the man made deep sea of plastic and dense forest of trees juxtaposes one another not only in their visual elements, but thematically too (on how our earth thrives or suffers). Pure vs polluted, both of these images in my eyes are beautiful but one is threatening the others existance, and this is why social change needs to happen on our part. Life vs dead
