I view the rope as a backbone, or a sturdy object to lean back on. This connects to Of Mice and Men because each hand represents George and Lennie. If one person lets go of the rope, the other person falls. If George stopped being there for Lennie, Lennie would fall. If Lennie stopped being there for George, George would fall as well. George and Lennie relied on each other to be there for one another all of the time. Lennie needed George to help him with his daily needs. In return, Lennie can only offer George appreciation and love. The bond that George and Lennie had, was true friendship. Friendship means being there for your friend when they need you the most, and those were qualities that the two men had.

I think that the two holding hands represent how George and Lennie did everything together. They always stuck together through thick and through thin. This relates to friendship because it is usual that close friends do a lot together. Many people found it weird that George and Lennie did so much of the same activities, but that was because they were unaware of the bonds that the two had. It shows that what they had was unique and special. Towards the beginning of the book, George is more pessimistic than caring, and without Lennie he most likely would have remained that way.

I think that this relates to Of Mice And Men because it shows that there is always a bright side to things. Together, George and Lennie could accomplish any of their many goals, always with each other by their sides. This relates to friendship because they would do everything together and could find their friendship growing stronger throughout each of their journeys. Throughout their adventures, the two friends overcame many obstacles, and used their strong bonds to their advantages when it came to hard times.

The lock represents Lennie, and the key represents George. You can not unlock a lock without a key, and without a lock, a key can not do much. This relates to friendship because there are parts missing from both the lock and the key, that are needed in order to be used. I believe it is the same with George and Lennie. When George and Lennie are separated, there are parts to each of them that can not be accomplished. Lennie needed George to assist him and be there for him at all times, and if George failed to do that then Lennie could not fully accomplish a task. In return, George very much needed Lennie's support on everything he did as well.

I chose this because George and Lennie spent so much time together and accomplished so many goals together that they became brothers in a way. I think that if you are so close to someone and you have such a strong bond with another person like George and Lennie did, then you are pretty much like family. This relates to friendship because they originally started out as strangers, eventually became friends, and turned out being even close as family. Friendship must be very strong in order to accomplish the bond that they had.
