I was born on May 30, 1934,  in a remote village in Listvyanka which is modern day Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. I was the eighth of nine children of Yevdokia and Arkhip Alxeievich Leonov. Before I was born my grand father was exiled to Siberia and with increasing political tensions it made it difficult for my family to get by. Then when I was 3 my father was arrested for presumed political beliefs, which forced my mother to move us in with her sister and her family in Kemerovo. When I was younger, I wanted to be an artists and I sold some of my work to help my family. In 1975 I commanded the Soyuz 19 mission which is docked the the Americans in space. The Americans called it the  Apollo-Soyuz Test Project or the ASTP. To prepare for the mission I had to learn English so we could talk to the Americans and Kennedy Space Center in Houston 3 times. After we docked I spent 5 hours and 43 minutes on the American side. After 44 hours of being docked we separated and docked again for another 3 hours. On March 18, 1965 Me and Pavel Beyayev left Earth aboard the Voskhod 2. When we got to space Beyayev opened the airlock for me, to begin my space walk. My job was simple, I was supposed to attach a camera to the airlock  to document my spacewalk. But I could not use my chest mounted camera because my suit had inflated making it impossible to use access my camera. My core body temperature had risen by 35 degrees and I almost had a heatstroke, it was like sloshing in sweat inside the suit. But my troubles weren't over yet when I tried to go back inside my suit had expanded and stiffened so I couldn't fit through the airlock, I was able to make it through the airlock by slowly opening my oxygen valve.
