It was a result of increased demand for goods from the East and improvements in the sea travel making it easier to exchange and sell goods. Important trading towns grew in northern Europe and Italy. A network of trading routes crisscrossed Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and beyond. The image below shows all the trade routes where the black death travelled through.

People abandoned their families, fled cities, and shut themselves off from the outside world. The funeral rites became stopped altogether and work started to decrease. Some people believed that god was descending upon everyone so they tried and fought the plague with prayer. Faith in religious terms decreased after the plague because of the deaths of so many people and because of the failure of prayer to stop and prevent the sickness.  It was so difficult (dangerous) to produce goods through trade and the prices of both goods produces locally and those important from far skyrocketed. Because of the amount of illness, death workers became exceedingly scarce, so even peasants and serfs felt the effects of the new rise in wages. The social and economic structure of Europe was drastically changed.

Also houses where filled with nice smelling flowers, plants and their floors where sprinkled with vinegar and rosewater. People would also carry sweet smelling concoctions when they left their houses. Plague doctors also wore masks filled with herbs to stop them from breathing in the miasma.

The black death was believed to have killed  30-60% of Europe's total population.

Many bodies were taken to churches where there wasn't very much sacred ground so the bodies could be buried. Cities like France, London, England, and Avignon the bodies were thrown into rivers or piled up in pits because of the lack of suitable burial sites. Coffins were not always available to so the dead bodies were carried on wooden boards to carry them to churches, graveyards and burial pits. The picture below shows a large pit like surface with bones layed next to each other. this is what the mass burials looked like in the middle ages during the black death.

"Bleeding" of the patients was believed to release the poisons from the victims body. Other treatments include lancing of the boils or buboes (an inflammatory swelling of a lymph gland especially in the groin or armpit area) and covering the buboes with a substance to draw off the poison. The picture below shows the buboes. they look like big lumps that are swollen and sore.

They believed that the Jews were responsible for all the illness' in the world regardless of how irrational it claims. the Jewish quarter was fired, 40 Jews were murdered in their homes, 900 were burnt alive and many hundreds of Jewish communities were destroyed. Many Jewish members committed  suicide to avoid the persecutions. The Jews were widely known for poisoning wells so most people automatically assumed that the Jews were responsible for the plague. The image below shows the Jews getting punished for what they have supposedly done. even though they didn't cause the start of the black death they were super-stitious and still believed the Jews were the cause.
