3. What else I would like to learn about sculpture as a Fine art.

Since sculpture is one of the most remarkable yet laborious fine art to create, I wanted to learn how a sculptor can form the simplest piece. I wanted to go beyond the readings of the module and interview a freelance or employed sculptor based in the Philippines. Interviewing an employed sculptor can provide a realistic and objective information and knowledge to me as a student of the Fine Arts class. It's an interview that would enlighten my mind about perspective and experiences of the sculptor. The enlightenment of knowledge from the interview would supplement more learning and meaning of the Sculpture module.

2. What I learned in the module about the form of sculpture as a Fine Art

Statuary as defined by Gilson in Chapter 3 of Forms and Substances in the Arts, is “a creation of different representations in solid and living forms.”

According to Gilson’s book, Forms and Substances in the Arts Chapter 3, he argues about the common notion of Statuary stating that its prevalence was the expression from one’s origination of culture consisting their traditions, beliefs, and daily habits. He argued that Statuary is more than these representations, but aiming to please the eye; beauty.

First, I learned that the Statuary’s purpose is to imitate the idea of the sculptor through what he or she sees everyday, representing subject and its nature. It is represented through a solidified form creating that sense of density and wholeness to the viewer’s eye. The elements of the sculpture are what makes it uniquely whole. As what I recalled the elements of sculpture are volume, mass, movement, space, material, balance, and proportion.

Second thing that I learned from this module is that statuary is an art of space and movement. It is an art of space because its solidified bodiliness occupies space within the viewer’s presence and time. Its impotence to movement is an aspect that gives the viewer different angles and perspective depending on the his or her point of origin from the sculpture. When the viewer sees the sculpture on the side, he or she sees a part of the whole. As the viewer moves, it gives more light and a clearer view of the elements and principles of Sculpture that connects and forming it into a unified statue.

The option of choosing materials by the sculpture has an impact to the statue as a whole Fine art. For example, when a sculptor uses marble, the texture and color of the marble signifies its relationship to the sculptor and the art piece. The sculptor chooses marble because it conveys the ideal representation of its piece. The marble may show softness and delicacy, but depicts a foundation of strength and power. There relationship of the sculptor and the material may challenge their limits of both as they do the process of sculpting. It’s important that the sculptor itself contemplate the material he or she would be using before making the piece.

Sculpture as a Fine art can possibly represent a subject or not. A sculpture can be in abstract or character representation. It aims to imitate the actual things we see every day and please the viewer’s eye. It is commonly defined as a solidified form that moves through time and space in a sense that it moves the viewer to appreciate the piece. Its elements, principles and techniques are significant in the process of making it as a fine art. The connection and balance of those three depends on the relationship of the sculptor to these things. It requires not only inspiration, but patience, determination and passion within the artist.

Sculpture is defined as an art that is formed through the use of solid materials such as stone, wood, charcoal, ceramic, and clay manually made through the hands of the sculptor.

The creator of sculptures is called a Sculptor.

It is a collection of different solid forms technically called as statues.

It is a tangible and concrete piece of art.

It is one of the most challenging and time-consuming art forms to create, making the sculptor carefully and beautifully create its statue.

Two of the relevant examples that I consider as forms of sculptures are pottery and monuments.

Its firm solidity signifies the form of the sculpture. It represents different meanings that are now displayed as exhibitions and utilized for storage and design such as monuments and pottery.
