Some ways Ugandan children contribute to their family is making meals for their family while they are away at work. They also wash dishes, fetch water, collect firewood, and graze the goats. Grazing the goats in a way to feed them. Grazing means to let a herbivore go out and eat grass or plants.

In Ugandan culture, when a boy turns 18 he should begin to think about building a house. If they are building in a rural area the house might be a semi-permanent house, but in suburban areas the house will most likely be a permanent home. However, less people are building houses in Uganda because the building materials are getting more expensive. For example a 50 Kilogram bad of cement that would cost $1 in China Pakistan, and Egypt are $8 in Uganda. Although that does not sound like a lot of money Ugandans like to make their houses very sturdy. Quoting Jquuko, "When it comes to residential storied buildings, the builders use a lot of material on the upper floors, yet you will only find bedrooms on these floors. There is no weight there because the bedrooms are used for only six hours a day. However, they build as if they are constructing a shopping mall that will hold 1,000 people and dead weight such as heavy chairs."

In Ugandan culture men are the head of the family. In most areas, men are the leaders of Uganda. The role of men and women shapes a significant part of life in any society. Aspects of society from how children are raised to marriage to the make-up of a country's workforce is vastly affected by how the country views men and women. This is certainly true in Uganda.

In the book Fesito Goes to the Market Fesito is asked by his parents to deliver some food to the market, along the way many other people ask Fesito if he could bring some of there things to the market. Fesito in the moment doesn't want to but then he remembers that bringing food to the market is a man's job and he wants to be seen as a man so he delivers them anyway. As he is biking to the market his friend asks him if he could bring him to the market on his bike, and he did. Right before he got to the market a gang of four people approach the two and and start bullying them. Even though Fesito was not very happy with all the things he was picking up along the way, they worked to his advantage because Fesito and his friend were able to throw the things at the gang members and were able to get to the market anyway.
