The classroom is made of rammed earth, which makes it difficult to affix work to the walls. However, we have two small bulletin boards and the back of some bookshelves in the rear of the room that we make use of. You can see the Thinking Maps our students made at the start of this course. Of course we'll do this again at the end of the course to see if it changes.

This is an example of timing. I only co-teach once a week with this teacher and had only 50 minutes to try this thinking routine, GSCE. This was step 1, the generating of information. I love this graphic organizer and use it often. We used it about a month ago and were so pleased to see how much more students added to it in their second round.

Here is the next step to the GSCE, centering and making connections. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we didn't get to the elaboration, but their social studies teacher will be having conferences and will ask them about them this week.

Really pleased this students is using Sentence Phrase Word to show me her thinking while reading The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.

After finishing the short story, students used this routine rather than the one-pager I had originally planned to use. I was impressed by her thinking here especially about the idea of dystopia showing the world to be "not easy and right."

Year 9 struggles to find vocabulary so the next part of this VTR was to use Flip to talk about herd mentality. I completely forgot that I wanted to circle back to this and do another at the end of the unit on Animal Farm.
