Katniss Everdeen is up against a number of external conflicts in "The Hunger Games." including the fight to feed her family, the fight against the oppressive society in which she lives, and the fight against other competitors to survive during the Games. However, she also faces a number of more nuanced internal conflicts as she navigates her fight to survive. She struggles with the choices she must make, and in defining who she is within this strict regime.

Katniss’s Society is riddled with problems. This is the exact reason why she is forced to enter the hunger games. The hunger Games serve as a reminder that the Capitol is in control. This is the most important conflict in the story. Man Vs Manknife.gif Katniss is put in a situation where she is forced to fight and kill for her life a gainst 23 other tributes untill she is the only survivor left. She is not able to trust or count on any of the other tributes, for they might just be planning to kill her. The Hunger Games is all about the fights, the violence, and the deaths of these tributes as they struggle to return home alive. Man Vs. Naturetrees.jpgKatniss is faced with many tough situations where she has to fend for herself in nature. When she is forced into the hunger games she must find water on her own, along with hunting food food and nutrience in order to survive. It is clear that nature is not working with Katniss, it is working against her.

The man vs.society conflict is Katniss vs. the government, because the entire book the government pretty much targets Katniss because of where she is from. The Capitol does not care about the people of District twelve because they don't do much for the Capitol. They see District twelve as a place to get kids for their entertainment, they never expect anything from them except for them to be killed. When the Capitol first realized that they had to make the games more exciting they targeted Katniss first. The biggest thing that really made it man vs. society was when Katniss defied the Capitol with the berries, but that wasen't the only time that she defied the Capitol. She also defied them when she covered Rue with flowers.

The main conflict is Katniss' ordeal, and the things she is forced to face as a tribute. This is a man -vs- man conflict, and it is a fight to the death. In the end, only Peeta and Katniss' threat to commit suicide ended this conflict. Unfortunately, forcing the Capitol's hand puts Katniss in direct conflict with the government.

Another conflict would be Katniss' decision to takes her sister's place as tribute. This conflict would be considered man -vs- self, although Katniss doesn't seem to have a problem stepping up to protect the sister she loves. This same type of conflict would come into play everytime Katniss has to commit an act she believes to be wrong
