Todays the day, My 5, 1961.
Today I will be launching from the Kennedy space center in cape Canaveral. This is my first ever mission and as soon as I'm out of earths atmosphere I'll be the first American in space. Although I am extremely nervous and there's a lot of pressure on me, I'm more excited than I am nervous. As I'm waiting for launch all I can think about is what its going to be like to experience the feeling of weightlessness. I hear mission control begin the countdown,
3,2,1...

As a rush of power surges from beneath the capsule I know we are off the ground. That's when it hits me, I'm about to make history. I'm going to be the first American in space. I can feel the capsule nearing the edge of earths atmosphere as I feel the boosters disengaging and begin feeling less of earths gravitational pull. That's when I feel it, the feeling of complete weightlessness. I am officially the first American to travel to space.

Here we are again, ten year later, back on the launchpad except this time, I'm not alone. My crew of 3 is joining me this time. My mission, make it to the moon to collect rock and soil samples for NASA research. As we begin to take off I still feel nervous, no matter how many times you launch or practice launch its always just as nerve-wracking as the first time. As we begin nearing the edge of earths atmosphere and the gravitational pull feels weak I get the familiar feeling of weightlessness. Now that the hard parts done its smooth sailing from here, I can already see the moon in the distance. As the capsule touches down on the moon I become nervous but excited yet again. While stepping onto the moon I feel the rock under my feet and hear nothing, complete and utter silence. After collecting the rock and soil samples needed we decide to have a little experimental fun. We hit golf balls on the moon, if only you could witness it in real life the videos being taken could not compare to what we are seeing and feeling right now. Before you know it, it was time to load up the capsule and head back to the giant blue orb we call home.
