Through our lives, we are going to have many trials and tribulations and often times it is hard to see how we could possibly get through a situation. Many people feel as though they are alone when they are going through a hard time and they think that they have to work through the problem all on their own. During Jesus’ life, he tells us that this is not the case at all. He has worked to ensure that we are able to make it through all trials that we face and he will protect us through that time. He shared this idea with his disciples and they went forth to share it with the world.

Paul tells the church in Ephesus to “Put on the whole armor of God” (Ephesians 6:11). This is interpreted in hundreds if not thousands of different ways depending on a person’s situation but Paul continues to explain what he means by this in the following verses. He says that when we face wiles of the devil we should put on the whole armor of God so that we can withstand those temptations. Paul also tells us what the “whole armor of God” is. Putting on the whole armor of God is “be[ing] strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power”. So when we face temptations we can see and realize that God has power over everything and will never let us go.

Paul explains that in order to “put on the whole armor of God,” “take up the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit” we need to read the Word of God. He specifically states that these things are the Word of God, which means we need to take the time out of our day to read and understand the Word of God. Doing this will help us be rooted deeply in faith so that when we face the trials that are bound to come we can withstand them through the strength of God and our belief in him

In our lives, this should have a direct impact on how we live and what we believe. Physically, in our lives we need to spend more time delving into the Word of God to understand more of what it is trying to tell us for our lives. That is just the first step. After we understand what the Word is telling us, we need to take what we learn and actually apply it to our lives so we can live lives that are more like Jesus. Only when we do this will we have the understand and ability to “be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power” in order to “put on the whole armor of God”.
