There introduction to the audience is the line "Fair is foul, and foul is fair."(1.1)  The supernatural element that they bring is repeated throughout the play. "I had most need of blessing, and 'Amen! '...Stuck in my throat." (2.2) A idea at the time was if you were in league with the devil you're unable to say holy words. His ambition is also sparked by the prophecies and apparitions that he interprets as signs to go ahead and reach for the throne.  He is tricked by the witches into thinking that he is invisible by the line "for none of woman born
Shall harm Macbeth."(4.1)

"The thane of Fife had a wife. Where is she now?—What, will these hands ne'er be clean?" She goes from hinting about murder, to actually seeing through. The quote "look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under it"? (1.5) encapsulates her character. She uses her feminine characteristics to avoid suspicion like when she fainted, but was more avid to kill than macbeth. But we find out as the story progresses, she may be less stone cold that we originally thought. Macbeth is constantly ridiculed by his wife, as she questions his manhood in order to get him to murder Duncan. She says he is “too full 
o’milk of human kindness” (1.5). 
This image is of the scene in which Macbeth returns to his wife with bloody hands and the daggers. As this wasn't the plan she once again ridicules him.
