Remember to Remember

Read Psalm 103

Psalm 103:1-5 encourages us remember to remember.

Psalm 103 was written by David as a call to worship. From the beginning David’s focus is not corporate, he begins by telling himself that he should praise the Lord. I find it refreshing that he begins with himself as it can be easy to think David naturally worshipped as he guarded sheep, defeated armies, that he was praising God as though it was second nature. At times our minds and emotions don’t naturally worship, yet often our hearts follow our conscious choice to remember how the Lord has worked.

In v.2 the connection of praise is made to reflection. Notice and forget not … See, to bless or praise God begins by not forgetting, but remembering all that God has done for us. The next several verses list God’s acts in his past.

Our lives often move at a swifter pace than we desire. We usually have worries and concerns about the future and too often we lose the priority of reflection. As you think of how best to spend your days, perhaps one of the best uses of your time is to intentionally reflect upon the Lord’s provision. As we are reminded of God’s faithfulness in the past, it will steady our hearts not to worry but to rest in His goodness as we await how He may work in the present. So remember to remember!
