This would be a time for something like read-aloud because the future process is to have them be able to write simple types of ways to write. We want them to be able to write simple letters, poems, short stories, or fictional writings. This would be a process for them to start getting engaged in creating their ideas and stories. When read-aloud is present and is happening you have each student get a packet or book to read with each other as a class. Each student reads a paragraph and each goes at their own pace. To make sure that everyone is engaged, we do a little popcorn reading for every kid to be engaged and picked randomly from a cup of straws.

We want them to be able to write simple letters, poems, short stories, or fictional writings.

Students will be brought together for a group discussion. The discussion will be about certain vocabulary and why we use such specific names for animals. Not just as words like them, things, it but names.

This is so students can start to learn about how to separate such nouns like pronouns and regular nouns. Which has special properties and which one does not.

During reading aloud stop to explain certain words that might be challenging or new to them. Stop to explain what they mean and how they are represented. This is a part of read-aloud that is separate from the fun activity. It is almost evaluation as well. Get them to act out what you act out and make sure that they give their best impressions. This is to show that your students are still paying attention and engaged in the read-aloud. Then we will break off into groups so they can all talk and give the points they liked most in the reading. This will give them a sense of urgency and make them want to participate. The ones who gave the best questions can receive a prize. Candy to be specific.

After the discussion, they are given time to write their own short stories. It is about a page long or however short of a story they would like to write. In this case, they are going to write about something that they did over the summer. Anything they would like to share about, we want them to express it. Then these will be posted up on the wall with drawings and colorings of what they did over the summer.

In this topic, we want to have them be able to think about things outside of school. To bring it into a bigger perspective so they can keep memories or be able to write down their emotions. We want to have them ask why is this important. Students will be able to tell with solid vocabulary and be able to express their thoughts in words.

Vocabulary test. Out of the week, we have an annual list of vocabulary words. This is what is used to make sure that students have been using the tools to their advantage. How reading and writing have been able to make them understand certain word's spelling and that they are taken into account. This is just a simple test that students are prepped for every week and with the vocab from the book, it will show if they were truly focused and attentive towards their work. Students with the highest score each get a reward from within the class. Giving them 15 minutes of reading time. With this, it gives more incentive to read and to want to do good. So for them to pay attention means all the merrier.
