         <title>The Yalta Conference </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The&nbsp; Yalta Conference was a meeting in Yalta with Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, and Franklin Roosevelt. This was a significant event due to the impact it had caused the Soviet Union and the countries involved in the Cold War This conference itself had the countries divide parts of Germany as World War 2 started to die off. This was around the start of the Cold War due to the division of Germany causing problems with the Soviet Union.</div>]]></description>

         <title>US Involvement During The Cold War</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>NATO ( North Atlantic Treaty Organization )<br>This was an alliance formed by some parts of Europe and the US to prevent problems and work the ones they had out. This strengthened many ties between Europe but forced the Soviet Union to become part of the Warsaw Pact. This alliance was most likely made to stop the Soviet Union from growing<br><br>Truman Doctrine<br>This was a new program introduced by President Truman. This stated that they would support the countries with 13 million dollars to prevent communism/the Soviet Union if they were together with the US. If a country were to ever feel threatened by the Soviet Union they were there to help.<br><br>Marshall Plan <br>This was a plan similar to the Truman Doctrine but was on a larger scale. This gave Western Europe billions of dollars to rebuild their economy. This was a response to the troubles they faced during WWII<br><br>Cuban Missile Crisis<br>The US played somewhat of a big role during the Cuban Missile Crisis. They had conflict with Cuba and the Soviet because they were against all out Nuclear War. President Kennedy was not for going head on with them due to his experiences in the war. <br><br>Containment<br>The US benefited from the new policy of containment and helped stop more Soviet Expansion. They were at no means to want to send the troops back to Europe though as seen in the containment section.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Iron Curtain<br>The Iron Curtain was a barrier between the non communist and communist areas in Europe. The Soviet Union and other the other European countries that were not yet affected by them. This showed up due to a decline in communism in Europe.<br><br>Stalin on free elections<br>After WWII, Stalin did want to hold free elections in Eastern Europe because he had feared that the election would promote non communist ideas to all of Europe. Due to the fear of democracy, Stalin did not allow free elections.<br><br>Warsaw Pact<br>The Warsaw Pact was a military alliance between communist countries such as the Soviet Union. This was a response to the forming of the NATO.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Space Race</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Effects on Soviet and America<br>The Space Race impacted the Soviet Union heavily, the wasted millions of dollars funding the space projects. The Space Race also wasted American money but advanced them and made them the superior country in terms of technology. At the end they both agreed and stopped the race. The US got the first man but the Soviets got the first satellite.&nbsp;<br><br>Winner of the Space Race was the United States<br>Important Events&nbsp;<br>Sputnik getting into orbit was the first major event for the USSR<br>The other major event was Neil Armstrong becoming the first person on the moon, this was a huge win for America.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Vietnam War<br>The Vietnam War started to gain support during the 1950s. The US sent soldiers to support South Vietnam after the divide of North and South Vietnam. The communist North Korea was a target for the US. The Soviet Union started to support fellow communists. The war was won by the South but faced many casualties due the Vietcong.&nbsp;<br><br>Korean War<br>The Korean War had involvement with both the USSR and the US. These countries decided to collide due to the political differences, the US tried heavily to prevent the spread of communism in any area possible. This war later spread on to China and communism was not being stopped. This war divided North and South Korea and it is still technically not over.</div>]]></description>

Officials from various countries soon discussed the unification and the counselor of Germany soon unified them once and for all. With event coming, the Soviet Union disappeared and so did the Cold War.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Glastnost<br>Glastnost was an idea first brought up by previous Soviet leaders. When Gorbachev presented this idea, he promised the opening of churches/religion finally being present in the USSR. This also allowed the books that were banned in the Soviet Union.<br>Perestrokia<br>Perestrokia was an initiative to revive the Soviet Economy. The local owners gained power over the factories and the workers. Private businesses were finally allowed, borrowing something from capitalism.<br><br>Mikhail Gorbachev<br>The leader of the Soviet Union<br>Introduced all the reforms such as Perestrokia and Glastnost.&nbsp;<br>People of the Soviet Union criticized him for these actions, losing the people's support was a big factor in the fall of the Soviet Union.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>2 Cold War Events, Arms Race and Berlin Blockade/Airlift</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Arms Race was a race between the USSR and the US. This was a fight for nuclear war, both countries began to start factories with the purpose of making nuclear bombs. The nuclear bombs start to be producted by both sides. This was a huge area of tension between these two. This could have lead to Nuclear War but the tension died down later on.<br> The Berlin Blockade was a block of trading outside of the Soviet Union and Airlift was a series of help from the US to their allies in Berlin. With the division of Germany, giving supplies was a challenge since the blockade is still active. The US decides to drop down supplies for Berlin allies for several months.This strengthened ties with the US. The blockade itself was a response to the Marshall Plan. From June 1948- May 1949, the US kept dropping supplies.</div>]]></description>
