One example of this when she was at the movies with Ponyboy and Johnny, she sat and talked with them, ending some of the tension between the two groups because she was a Soc and they were Greasers.. Cherry has the unique ability to look past the outside of a person into their personality. Another example of this was when her and Ponyboy were watching the sunset together, she brought up that though her and Ponyboy lived on opposite sides of the city they still saw the same sunset, just in a different point of view. Once in the book while Ponyboy was at the movies he stated, “But those two girls weren't our kind. They were tuff-looking”(19). This quote shows that there is so much segregation that people see two types of people, Greasers and Socs, the stereotypical version of them.

Cherry looked into Bob, she looked past the rough and broken bully he was on the outside. She saw a side that nobody else could see, she said that he was very kind if you spent the time trying to get to know him, but not everyone can see into people like she can. Cherry can express herself in a way that she gets her emotions and feelings out in the open. Ponyboy had never spoken to her before even though they went to the same school. Cherry is a protagonist because she is always on Ponyboy’s side and though she does not speak very much in the book, she has a huge impact on Ponyboy’s life. Chery is a static character because her goal throughout the entire book is to end the segregation between the Socs and Greasers, that goal never changes. Cherry is a round character and I know this because in the book she opens up a lot to Ponyboy and we got a look into that. We got more details and pieces of her personality every time she opened up. In the book, Cherry states that, “ she won’t drink Dally’s coke if she was starving, and she meant it. It was the principle of the thing. But Marcia saw no reason to throw away a perfectly good free coke,” (30).  This shows that Cherry has a complex personality because instead of seeing the coke as a thing like Marcia she sees the coke as a gift from Dally in his attempts to make her approve of him.

]]> 2016-10-28 18:24:30 UTC https://padlet.com/2022bowls79/ibyi9zupi5xh/wish/133981081 2022richs79 https://padlet.com/2022bowls79/ibyi9zupi5xh/wish/133981281 When we took the personality test for Cherry, it showed that one of her strengths were being tolerant, in the book when Pony and Cherry are getting popcorn together Ponyboy is talking about when Johnny got jumped and how the greasers had so many problems to deal with, and though Cherry felt Ponyboy’s pain she stated, “ We have problems you’ve never even heard of...things are rough all over”(31). This shows that even though Ponyboy had experienced terrible things she still wanted him to see both sides of the story. Also, in the personality test it showed that a weakness of a protagonist is being too selfless, that is very true in Cherry’s case because she always cared for others not just herself.
