         <title>Detector for Orgnosulfur - Flame Photometric detector (FPD) Operation Principle</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Flame Photometric Detector or GC-FPD is a technique used to analyse sulphur or phosphorous containing compounds and metals such as tin, boron, arsenic and chromium. An FPD uses a Hydrogen/Air flame into which the sample is passed. Phosphorous and sulphur containing hydrocarbons generate chemiluminescene at specific wavelengths which when passed into a photo-multiplier gives an electrical signal which can then be measured.&nbsp;<br><br>Advantages :&nbsp;<br>1)Not limited to sulfur and phosphorus containing compounds but also detects N, As, Sn, Se, Ge, Te, Sb, Br, Ga, In, Cu<br><br>2) Have 3 types - single flame, dual flame, pulsed-flame photometric detector.<br><br>Disadvantages : &nbsp;<br>1)mechanism is not completely understood because of the complex nature of the process occurring in the flame.<br><br>2) use large sample and solvent adversely effects the light emision by changing the temperature and geometry of the flame<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Principle A radioactive beta emitter, nickel (Ni-63), is a component of an ECD. The beta particles ionize a gas which causes a background current to flow in the ECD circuitry. If a sample absorbs some of the negative electron ions (a process called ionizing electron capture) the current is reduced. The current fluctuation therefore reveals the presence of the sample components<br><br>Advantages :<br>High sensitivity and selectivity for analyte with electophilic functional group, non-destructive<br><br>Disadvantages : <br>Use radioactive source, most easily contaminated detectors, affected by oxygen and water<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
