The flag of India is known locally as "Tiranga" which translates into "tricolor".
India adopted its current national flag in 1947. There were five previous versions before the final one.
The flag consists of three colors saffron, white and green. At the center of the flag there is a dark blue wheel known as Chakra. This symbol is inspired by the Hindu one that according to faith symbolizes that life thrives with the movement or progression of a community. It is also believed that the Chakra represents the wheel of the law.
According to one theory, the colour of saffron represents Hinduism and Buddhism in India, while green is used to represent Muslims and white represents other minority religions, including Christianity.
Another theory associates colors with the morals and ethics of Indians. So saffron represents courage and strength of the Indian people, white honesty, purity and peace in the country, Green is seen as a symbol of fertility of the earth.

Today, the anniversary celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, with five days of celebration typically between October and November.
Many rituals are accompanied by Diwali: from the preparation of dishes and typical desserts, to candles and torches that brighten the night and create atmospheres full of suggestion.
