A genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially when singled out by a particular nation or ethnic group.

Some of the major world genocides were the Holocaust, the Rwandan Genocide and the Cambodian Genocide.

Genocides are usually focused on the killing of a certain ethnic group or nation. For example, the Nazi’s rounded up the Jewish people in Europe and sent them to concentration camps and eventually mass slaughtered them.

April 6, 1994 - A plane carrying Hutu President Habyarimana, was shot down before it was to land in the city of Kigali, Rwanda.

April 7, 1994 - The Hutu started killing the Tutsi political leaders.

April 9, 1994 - The first major massacre of Tutsi, occured in the Pallottine Missionary Catholic Church.

April 15-16, 1994 - Another major massacre of Tutsi, inside the Nyarubuye Roman Catholic Church.

April 18, 1994 - At least 12,000 Tutsis killed in the Gatwaro Stadium, another 50,000 killed in the Bisesero hills, then many more thousands are killed in the town of Bisesero. Totalling a minimum of 72,000 Tutsis killed in one day.

April 28-29, 1994 - An estimated 250,000 Tutsis flee to Tanzania.

May 23, 1994 - The RPF (Rwandan Patriotic Front) seizes the capital.

End of July, 1994 - The RPF take full control over the country, therefore ending the genocide.
