An issue that is relevant to the novel Legend by Marie Lu is poverty. In the book, when Day first finds Tess, "She was a skinny as a rail, with a tattered shirt and trousers" (Lu 84). This shows that kids throughout the impoverished sectors do not get adequate nutrition and do not have their needs met. This is a very serious problem because poverty can cause death. That is why poverty is an issue that is relevant to Legend.

Another example of poverty being a relevant issue in the book Legend is how Day's family lives. In Day's old room, "There's the tattered mattress Eden's on, and next to it is the scratched-up chest" (Lu 116). This shows poverty because of the terrible living conditions they endure. A young boy has an old worn out bed, and that cannot be good for him. That is another reason why poverty is a relevant issue in Legend.

A theme in the book Legend by Marie Lu is that trust is hard to get and easy to lose. This is shown when June says, "The plague patrol is coming for your family. They're taking them away" (Lu 145). This shows the theme because she knowingly uses he trust Day has in her and uses it to betray him. This also shows the theme because of how much she had to go through to regain his trust, which is helping him escape the government on the day f his execution. That is why the theme of Legend is that trust is hard to get and easy to lose.

I have learned something so far from reading this book. It has broadened my view on the personal issue of being more thankful. I could be sleeping on, "The tattered mattress Eden's on," but instead I have a pretty good bed and need to be more thankful (Lu 116). I believe that I should stop complaining about what I do have, because it could be much worse. That is what I have learned from reading this book.
