Emily was born on 30 July 1818 in Thornton, Yorkshire, England. She was the fifth of six children. In 1820 the family moved to Haworth.
After the death of their mother, Emily, Charlotte and their older sisters Maria and Elizabeth were sent to the Clergy Daughters' school where Maria and Elizabeth caught a typhoid epidemic, and they were sent home, where they died. 
In 1846, Charlotte discovered the poems which wrote her sister Emily. 
The three sisters Brontë were published together a poems book. The sisters had adopted pseudonyms for publication, preserving their initials, but only two copies had sold.
She died in 1848 with 30 years old.
