By the summer of 1941 they had invaded France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Yugoslavia* and the USSR*.

2.    Millions of Germans were imprisoned and killed because they didn’t fit the image of the ‘perfect’ German

Hitler wanted to create what he thought was the “best” and strongest race – and to the Nazi Party, this excluded certain groups, such as Jews, Gypsies and those with physical and mental disabilities. In an attempt to eliminate a “racial enemy” outside of Germany, such groups were also persecuted in the countries invaded by German forces.

3.      Around the same time that Germany fought for power in Europe, Japan wanted to control Asia and the Pacific

In 1937 (before World War 2 had officially begun) under Emperor Hirohito, Japan attacked China, bringing the two nations into years of conflict.

4.     The Germans surrendered on 8 May 1945

In 1944, an Allied army crossed from Britain to free France from Nazi rule. One year later, Allied armies invaded Germany, forcing the Germans to surrender. After nuclear attacks on Japan’s major cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan also surrendered to Allied forces in August the same year. World War 2 had ended.

5.     Around 64 million people died in World War 2

– that’s more than the entire population of the United Kingdom.

Thorndike’s trial and error theory were a method I found myself gravitating towards when I was having a choreographic block. This theory became fun tasks for my dancers where we accidentally would create material that fitted very well within my piece. “Thus, in trial and error method, the learner makes random activities and finally reaches the goal accidently”. Using this method meant I was always able to be productive through rehearsals and always come up with material. I commonly set tasks with different end goals. I would never leave tasks too open for misinterpretation as I wanted to ensure my dancers were being specific to my theme. However, in terms of movement, this would be free. Seeing what worked and what didn’t was something that let me reflect and review on material and gave more space for creativeness. Throughout some rehearsals I felt I needed this. This theory also worked well for me, it allowed me to stop playing safe and openly ‘play’ around with different options and because of this I would accidentally find things that worked.

Throughout my process I felt I was very self-aware; I took on full responsibility for my journey by identifying my original idea. I would then follow out the appropriate research and because of this I feel like I was well prepared before I created movement. I blogged my rehearsals in a bullet point format as that works better for me and I was able to see quickly and clearly what I had done in previous week. Blogging was important for me to keep up with rehearsals because as much as the project had to be finished, I didn’t want to keep my rehearsals repetitive because then my dancers would lose focus and passion in my piece.  Throughout my process I was continually researching more ideas. After rehearsals would finish I always reflected and reviewed my movement this resulted in continual growth and development. For this module I felt from the start it was important to set personal goals for me because it would keep me driven to produce good work. For me these were ensuring I was organised and had material prepared before rehearsal. I felt I was successful in achieving this aim as I continually went into my rehearsals with planned work and as a result of this, I was able to put my piece together quickly and rehearsals ran smoothly. My second aim was delivering rehearsals confidently which again I succeeded. This was important for me as I knew to get the most out of my dancers, I had to confidently explain what I was wanting so they would understand fully.
