The group was carrying torches while walking down the street. According to lawyer and racism expert Daniel Kettiger, “it is unclear if the group has broken any Swiss laws. It would be difficult to establish if the members are guilty of racial discrimination in the current case because they weren’t targeting a specific ethnicity or race.” In addition, it took place during the carnival celebrations where there is a relatively high tolerance for satire. UPDATE I:
After a wave of deadly terrorist attacks across Europe in 2017, the EU is facing changes to weapon laws. These laws ban certain types of semi-automatic gun capable of firing a large number of bullets in a short span of time. If the Swiss voters back these new rules, there will me new, more restrictive rules on gun ownership. A group called the Swiss Shooting Interest Group launched a popular initiative for Swiss voters to reject the EU's new rules. They voting will take place on March 20th, 2019.

UPDATE II:
In 2017, the first paternity leave proposal launched. The original asked for time was four weeks partially-paid time for new dads, but then it went down to two weeks. Switzerland had a gender pay gap of 19.6% in 2016. The Swiss government rejected both campaigns last night. So now, fathers in Switzerland will only get one day off when their partner gives birth.

Rape laws in Switzerland are outdated and dangerous. Swiss law does not define rape on the basis of lack of consent. Instead, it uses a definition based on whether physical violence, threat or coercion is involved. This survey was done as "wake-up call" for the Swiss authorities. There most important finding is one in five women is a victim of sexual violence.

It would also raise the maximum sentence for abortion from 3 to 10 years and would make it a crime to engage in “the promotion of abortion,” which could mean that the provision of sexual and reproductive information, counseling, or referrals might result in sentences of up to 10 years. The law will prohibit same-sex marriage and legal recognition for same sex couples.

Update: In August, Guatemalan Congress approved a preliminary version of the “Life and Family Protection.” The bill needs to pass another round of votes, as well as an approval per article, before the president can sign it into law.
