The poem and "The Pearl" had connections and similarities.

1. The first reason why I thought they were alike because they both educated us on what path in life we should take. Whether it's Good VS. Evil, and maybe the path that is different. Life is full of decisions that you have to make. Decisions might be thought of as paths, one path might be a good decision the other might be a bad decision.

2. Next, I thought they were alike because they were talking about going and not coming back. In the Pearl , Kino and Juana decided they would run away from their town because people were trying to steal they're pearl. He wanted to be greedy and keep the pearl. In the poem "The Road Not Taken", he wanted to take the different path away from the people and he wouldn't come back.

The connection is that Kino took a path and the character in the story took a path that is unchangeable and changed their lives, so choose the right path. The character took the road less traveled by and it made the difference or change in his/her life. Kino found the pearl and chose to use it for money and for power and wealth and it changed his life forever.

What I've learned:
From the book and the poem, I have learned that sometimes in life, you have to make decisions where they could ruin or improve it. Like When Kino found the pearl. He had to decide whether to keep it and live in greed, or throw it back and continue his normal life. A concern or question I still have is, would the story have a happy ending if Kino had never found the pearl?

The connection of the two of them have is that both are about choosing different decisions than other people (NonConforming). That is like when Kino rejected the pearl buyer's offer which some people won't do, and the person in the poem chose to go the path that nobody took.

Connection :
The Pearl - The Road Not Taken

The lesson that is taught in both The Pearl and the poem is that the decisions that we make have an effect on us. Kino deciding to keep the pearl up until the very end led to a tragedy happening to Kyotito at the end of the book. In the poem, he took the wrong path and that led the person telling the story in the poem to his life changing forever.

The pearl was about Kino choosing the wrong path and keeping the pearl, letting greed take over him. The poem was about choosing which path is the correct choice. Which ever choice you make is unchangeable so make your choices wisely in life.
