         <description><![CDATA[<div>In this example shown above this is a checklist that is based on the development of an infant that is 7-9 months old. The checklist is determining the infant's communication and feeding milestones. Each line reads what the infant may complete in that time frame of 7-9 months and during this time the parent or caretaker can check off "yes" or "no" if their child has or has not completed these milestones.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Checklists are simple, flexible, and very easy to use&nbsp;</li><li>Requires little to no training or instruction to use them&nbsp;</li><li>Checklists can be used as different assessment strategies&nbsp;</li><li>Recording behaviors&nbsp;</li></ul><div><br></div><div>Educators should use checklists because of the benefits listed above but also because educators can use checklists to evaluate and gather the information that they need, combine assessment strategies, update records, and use developmental checklists as a way of communicating with the parents about what the child can work on with them.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Disadvantages of Checklists:</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Checklists may have their advantages but there are also their disadvantages. Checklists are not used as a form of assessment itself, it can be very time-consuming and as someone new to being an educator. Teachers may feel that using checklists can be difficult to start and take their time away with their students. It is also possible to have too many checklists and it could cause overwhelm especially with multiple forms of record keeping and assessment.<br>Another disadvantage is that a checklist cannot determine how a child performs skills, it can only determine only if the child can perform sufficiently.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

The teacher completes answers to the questions in this form based on the actions the student performs. The angry/sad face represents the worst behavior and the scale continues to progress from 1-5 including the smiley face which means the child was on great behavior.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Rating scales may have their advantages but there are also disadvantages.&nbsp;<br><br></div><ul><li>Rating scales are highly subjunctive</li><li>It is a common problem to have bias and errors</li><li>There are no indicators for a rating</li><li>Rating scales can be an unreliable source of information</li><li>Rating scales show little to no information about behavior causes</li></ul><div><br></div><div>An educator would not want to use rating scales because of the disadvantages listed above but also because teachers can rate children based on their interactions or emotional basis that occurred previously compared to an objective basis where a teacher could base opinions on facts instead of their own personal feelings of the child. Another disadvantage of rating scales can be that the teacher uses their own judgments on the child's progress which could also be biased towards the child.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>
