The theme of survival in both text "The life of PI" and , "the story of keesh" showed us not to give up in a hard circumstance and to change your mind set to a positive point of view. the main characters in both text are put in a Contingency the text The story of keesh states, "Nay, O Klosh-Kwan. It is not for a boy to know aught of witches, and of witches I know nothing. I have but devised a means whereby I may kill the ice-bear with ease, that is all. It be headcraft, not witchcraft." This evidence proves he is using a certain type of mind set to be able to survive. According to the text "the life of pi" states, "was there any reward greater than life? Any punishment worse then death? I looked at Richard Parker. My panic was gone. My fear was dominated. survival was at hand." This evidence shows Pi set his mind set to a point were he is willing to survive. The will to survive depends on your mind set and the way you look at the situation if you just given up in that circumstance is most likely you wont make it out alive.

Ive learned alot from survival. But there is this one lesson in particular that stood out and I've learned that survival is all about your mindset. In the text Life of Pi it states "I surely would have given up and let go of the oar, hoping that I might drown before being eaten. But I don't recall that i had a single thought during those first minutes of relative saftey.". This shows that he didnt have a single thought of giving up or killing himself to end the pain and instead staying strong. The text goes on to state "Holding the can with both my hands, I sharply brought it up against a hook. a good dint. I did it again. Another dint next to the first. By dint of dinting, I managed the trick. A pearl of water appeard. I licked off. I turned the can and banged the opposite side of the top against the hook to make another hole. I worked like a fiend. I made a larger hole. I sat back on the gunnel. I held the can up to my face. I tilted the can.". This shows that keesh was focusing on water and had the mind set to do what he had to do. This shows how survival has to do alot with survival.

In unit two the lesson learned about the theme of survival is to never give up. In the excerpts "The Life of Pi" and "The Story of Keesh" they both had to survive conflict. One thing they had in common was that they never gave up. In "The Story of Keesh" he was being attacked by the council because they didn't believe in him but he survived and became the best hunter. In the "The Story of Keesh" it states "But he came not shamefacedly. Across his shoulders he bore a burden of fresh-killed meat." This proves that he never gave up and did not listen to the council. He went and hunted and was successful. In "The Life of Pi" Richard Parker made Pi never give up. In "The Life of Pi" it states "I looked at Richard Parker. My panic was gone. My fear was dominated. Survival was at hand." This proves that Pi never gave up because Richard Parker gave him hope to survive. This proves the lesson learned this unit was to never give up, no matter what anybody says or does. "But today our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change" -Martin Luther King Jr.

The lesson that I learned about the theme of survival in unit two is that inorder to survive you need the will . In the “Life Of Pi” his will to survive was his father . In the text it states , “What was missing here to tame Richard Parker ? Time ? It might be weeks before a ship sighted me . I had all the time I’m the world . Resolve ? There’s nothing like extreme need to give you resolve . Knowledge ? Was I not a zoo keepers son ? “. When Pi decides he is gonna take Richard Parker his
will is his father , because of his father was not a zoo keeper and Pi didn’t have a clue on how to tame a tiger or animal he would not have survived. In the “Story Of Keesh” his will to survive was also his father . In the text it states ,” Those who saw him go noted that he carried his bow , with a goodly supply of bone-barbed arrows , and that across his should was his fathers bug hunting-spear”. This proves that if Keesh’s father did not die he wouldn’t survive because he would not have gone hunting in the first place so because of his fathers hunting ways Keesh was inspired and made his father his will .

“A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live .”- Martin Luther King J.R. This quote relates to Pi and Keesh because they both did anything they could to survive instead up giving up and doing nothing they both were determined to get out of the conflict they both were in .

The lesson I learned about theme of survival in unit two is to be determined because Keesh and Pi both had it hard in life but people and animals help in survive. They both struggled but still had strength to do it on there own. One piece of evidence from, "The Story Of Keesh", "Keesh, from the poorest igloo in the village, rose to power and place over them all", this shows he can survive on his own without people telling him what to do, he goes on his own and try to provide for his family, he decides to hunt on his own. Another piece of evidence from the text, " Life of Pi", " There was no question. Thirst pushed me on", this shows that he pushed himself and he was determined to survive and get help. Both Keesh and Pi were both determined.

What I learned about survival in unit two is that in spite of the situation you must not give up. In the story “The story of Keesh” it states “But he came not shamefacedly. Across his shoulders he bore a bungee of fresh-killed meat.” So this proves that Keesh didn’t give up because he said that he will go and get the meat by himself, council said that he cannot, but after he came with burden of fresh- killer meat. In addition in the story “Life of Pi” it states “Was there any reward greater then him? Any punishment worse then death? I looked at Richard Parker. My panic was gone. My fear was dominated. Survival was at hand.” So it proves that Pi didn’t give up because before he was scared of tiger, but now he’s thankful that he was with him. Now he know that survival is in his hands. So that’s what I learned about survival in unit two.

What I have learned from unit two is that the theme is based on survival, two boys, Keesh from “The Story of Keesh” and Pi from “The Life of Pi” both experienced situations where they have had to beat something so they keep go living on. From the text of “The Story of Keesh” the text states, ”Those who saw him go noted that he carried his bow, with a goodly supply of bone-barbed arrows, and that across his shoulder was his father’s big hunting spear. And there was laughter, and much talk event.” This shows that Keesh is being underestimated and undermined by all the men in his village so Keesh had to prove himself. Also in the story “Life of Pi” it states,”Truly, I was coming back from the dead”. Since Pi had a lot of life threatening situations he had to pull himself together and live so he can beat everything that tried killing him. This shows that Keesh from “The Story of Keesh” and Pi from “The Life of Pi” they both had to live and beat situations that pull them down.

In the text it states "i looked at richard parker. My panic was gone my fear was dominated. Survival was at hand. So it came to be plan number seven keep him alive. This quote proves that pi never intended to be inspired by Richard parker to survive or even live. In addition in the "the story of keesh" it states that " beacause of the things he had done they looked for him to appear in the concil but he never came they were to ashamed to ask". This proves that the concil never expected keesh to rise up and be the best hunter

Keesh was strong, he did not gave up and his life has changed. n the story "Keesh from the poorest igloo in the village, rose to power and place over them all."

This unit has taught me a lot about the theme of survival. The main lesson I learned was that you have a better chance of survival when you have someone and/or something inspiring you. For example, in the excerpt, "The Story of Keesh", Keesh was inspired by his father to confront the council about his situation and to hunt by himself at such a young youth. Also in another excerpt, "The Life of Pi", Pi was on a boat in the middle of the Pacific with a tiger aboard. He was inspired by Richard Parker. In the excerpt, "The Life of Pi", it states " A part of me did not want Richard Parker to die at all, because if he died I would be left alone with despair, a foe even more formidable than a tiger. If I still had the will to live,it was thanks to Richard Parker. He kept me from thinking too much about my family and my tragic time I was grateful. He pushed me to go on living." This quote is showing that Pi is essentially alive because of Richard Parker. On the other hand " The Story of Keesh " states "Bok, my father, was a great hunter. I, too, his son, shall go and hunt the meat that I eat." This quote shows that Keesh was inspired by his father to hunt for his own meat at a young age.

There was a lesson in Unit 2 that was about the theme of survival. What was learned from the lesson was that there's always a way to get where you need to be, despite the occasion. For example, in the "Story of Keesh" it states," There was much doubt at first, much doubt and discussion. The killing of a polar bear is very dangerous, but thrice dangerous is it, and three times thrice, to kill a mother bear with her cubes. The men could not bring themselves to believe that the boy Keesh, single-handed, had accomplished so great a marvel." This piece of evidence from the "Story of Keesh" shows that even though Keesh didn't have the resources, he was still able to get what he needed. Another example is that in the article "Life of Pi' it states "I didn't even notice daybreak. I held onto the oar, I just held on, God knows only why. The elements allowed me to go living. The lifeboat did

The lesson that I learned about the theme of survival in unit two is that one individual will need a companion, good or bad, because they can inspire you to push to new limits in a desperate situation. This was applied in the "Story of Keesh', where Keesh was inspired by the council to tirelessly hunt for polar bears for over two days, and wouldn't stop until everyone in the village where fed. In the "Life of Pi", Pi was inspired by Richard Parker to think differently about his near-death situation. In the "Story of Keesh" in paragraph 13 it states,"no widow nor weak one shall cry in the night because there is no meat, when the strong men are groaning in great pain for that they have eaten overmuch. I, Keesh, have said it!" Keesh has been beaten by council due to his speech, and the next day, Keesh went out to hunting with a fierce ambition. In the "Life of Pi" in line 12 it quotes, "and so I pushed aside all thoughts of Richard Parker and fearlessly went exploring for fresh water." This shows that Pi had to change his mindset in order to get what he wants.

In unit two we learned lesson about theme of survival. And What I learned was , how Pi survived by Richard Parker, and how Keeshond survived by his father . The only reason Pi survived was because Richard Parker was on that boat, and the tiger brought him a peace , purpose which makes him to stay alive . This statement is true because in the text states “It was Richard Parker who calmed me down , it is the irony of this story that the one who scared me witless to start with was the very same who brought me peace , purpose , I dare say even wholeness” this evidence proves that Richard Parker inspired him to survive , and tiger brought him peace , without Richard Parker he wouldn’t be alive . In “The story of Keesh “ , Keesh survived by his father because in the text states that “ Never shall I speak in the council again, never again till the men come to me and say , ‘it is well, Keesh , that thou shouldn’t speak , it is well and it is our wish. Take this now , ur men , for my last word . Bok, my father , was a great hunter . I, too his son, shall go and hunt the the meat that I eat” so this shows that Keesh would never gonna go to councils , and Keesh inspired by his father , which made him to go and hunt alone.

You have to believe in yourself, challenge yourself, and push yourself until the very end; that's the only way you'll succeed.

By:G-Dragon

One lesson that I have learned about the theme of survival in unit 2, is to always stay brave, and have hope. Jack London states. '' Never shall I speak in the council again, never again till the men come to me and say, it is well, Keesh, that thou shouldst speak, it is well and it is our wish. Take this now, ye man, for my last word. Bok, my father, was a great hunter. I, too, his son, shall go and hunt the meat that I eat.'' Here, you can see how Keesh stays strong, and even though he was receiving way to little meat, in order to survive, Keesh stated he will never go to the council again, and Keesh was inspired by his father, which led Keesh to hunt. PI states. '' I was no longer afraid of it. it wasn't ten feet away, yet my heart didn't skip a beat. Richard Parker's presence had at least that useful aspect.'' Pi was extremely brave, and Pi wasn't afraid of the tiger! Pi needed to survive.

This unit has thought me that you have to be brave no matter what. In the story "The Story Of Keesh" it shows how Keesh was brave enough to go hunting by himself. In the text it states "Early next morning, Keesh strode into the village. But he came not shamefacedly. Across his shoulders he bore a burden of fresh-killed meat." This proves that he was brave enough to go hunting all by himself. Another example is Pi, he was stuck in the middle of the ocean with a tiger but he was brave enough to stay with the tiger because it calmed him down. In the story "Life Of Pi" it says "...It was Richard Parker who calmed me down". This shows that he was brave enough to stay with the tiger because it calmed him down.

The lesson that i learned about the theme of survival in unit two is that no matter what, you always need someone or something to inspire you to accomplish your goal. Such as Pi and Richard Parker. The only reason Pi survived on that boat was because of Richard Parker. In the text it states "It was Richard Parker who calmed me down. It is the irony of this story that the one who scared me witless to start off with was the very same who brought me peace, purpose, I dare say even wholeness." This peace of evidence explains how Richard Parker inspired Pi to stay alive because it explains how Pi needed him because Richard Parker gave him things like peace and purpose to stay alive. A few people that inspired Keesh to survive is his mom, dad, and the poor people in his village. One piece of evidence that shows that these people inspired Keesh is '' My mother has no one, save me; wherefore i speak. As i say, though Bok be dead because he hunted over keenly, it is just that i, who am his son and my mother who is his wife, should have meat in plenty so long as there be meat in plenty in the tribe." This piece of evidence shows that Keesh's mom dad and tribe inspired him to go and talk to the council.

Quote: " The ultimate measure of a man is not is not where he stands in comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.''

Quote by: Dr Martin Luther Ki] jr

What I learned about survival in Unti 2 is don't give up ever in your life. Whatever situation is you will try to survive. Also to survive you need supplies most important is Water, and Food. In the story "The life of Pi" states."hanging on to an oar, an adult tiger in front of me, Sharks was beneath me, a storm raging about me". This shows that, A tiger is front of him and sharks beneath him. The setting is so extreme that he thinks maybe he should have been die. But he still didn't give up and he survive. In addition "The story of Keesh" states "But he came not shamefacedly. Across his shoulders he bore bungee of killed meat". This proves that, he didn't give up and he still get meat by himself. People thinks that he cannot do and when he came back home the people were shocked that he get meat by himself. This is what I learned in Unti 2.

What I learned about the theme of survival in unit two is If, for example, what kind of situation has happened and you need to survive somehow, then you don’t need to start to panic you have to think about what to do and how to do everything to survive. It is necessary to create a safe place in order to save from any extreme situation. And in order to survive, you need to post it with food and water, and this is an important descendant that if you don’t have it, how will you survive in an extreme situation where you will get your energy. For example In “The Story of Keesh” is talking about a teen boy confronts his elders and proves he can survive and succeed as a lone hunter of polar bears while fulfilling his promise to provide food for the weakest in his village. This shows that, he is ready to fight for survival and he is ready to hunt bears without even being afraid of them and he will hunt bears so that he could get meat and not only milking himself but for all the villagers who really need food.

This unit has taught me many lessons that contribute to the theme of survival. But to reduce that amount, i’d Say that the major one is that regardless of your severe position you can still accomplish amazing tasks. “The Story Of Keesh” states that “ Keesh, from the poorest igloo in the village, rose to power and place over them all.” Despite Keesh’s rough position, that didnt hold him back from evolution and success. “ The Life Of Pi” also contributes to this idea by showing “ And so I pushed aside all thoughts of Richard Parker and fearlessly went exploring for fresh water.” Even though there was a wild tiger on the loose, Pi continued on his path of survival.

This unit taught me that sometimes Keesh and Pi had to change their mind set to be able to survive. In the text it says that “Take this now he men for my last word Bok my father was a great hunter I too his son shall go and hunt the meat that I eat.” This shows that Keesh had to be able to change his mind set because Keesh needed to change his mind to be able to say to himself that now I have to provide for myself and that I am getting my own food. The text also says that “ I was on a genuine regulation lifeboat and that such a lifeboat was surely outfitted with supplies. This show that Pi had to change his mind set because had he not been thirsty he probably wouldn’t have thought about making a move to get supplies to survive.

My quote: “whatever you do give it your best effort or you’ll never know what might have been.” Stephen Curry. This is related to my paragraph be both Keesh and Pi has to work hard to survive the circumstances

Unit two taught me much more about the theme of survival than I was ever expected. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that person has better chances to survive with someone and less if he is alone. For example “The Story of Keesh”, it is right that he was hunting alone but he was inspired by his father, which means that he still was not alone. Also “The Life of Pi”, he was stuck in the middle of a pacific with a bengal tiger and that was his inspiration, and he couldn’t do anything without him. Unit two in the Code-X book taught me much more about the theme of survival than I was ever expected.

One reason why i learned about survival, in "The life of PI" because he was using his surroundings, in the text it states "I sharply brought it against the hook. A good dint. I did it again".

The lesson i learned about the theme of survival in unit two is the ability to overcome difficulties. For "Life Of Pi", Pi was be able to survive cause of Richard Parker, they both got along. In the text it sates " My panic was gone. My fear was dominated. Survival was at hand. And so it came to be: Plan number seven: keep him alive." This piece of evidence shows that Pi fear was gone and Richard Parker changed Pi 's way of thinking. For Keesh, he was inspired by his father because he aimed his father. In the text " The Story Of Keesh" it states "Those who saw him go noted that he carried his bow, with a goodly supply of bone -barbed arrows, and that across his shoulder was his father's big hunting spear." This evidence shows that keesh is going to die like his father. This describes what i learned in this lesson
