(Rožňava’s watch tower)

This watch tower is located in the centre of Rožňava’s town square. In the Turkish times it was used for protecting the entire town from Turkish invaders. There’s still bell on the top of the tower for alerting citizens of Rožňava, but nowadays it serves not as an alert from invaders but tells the time, ringing different music every hour. Fun fact: There’s still hole from cannonball in the wall of the tower.

It is located in the middle of the square next to the watchtower. In the past, it was used by The City Council. They made law decisions here. Important meetings of city self-governing bodies and mayors were held here. This was the most important building in the medieval city.

A miming whimsey is a machine that is using the power of horses to pull up  down ores or people from the mine. It was used in the miedeval ages for vertical mining. While the horses spinned around in a circle the rope was pulled up or down. There were usually two persons on the top of the tower in the basket to control the horses.
