Action Strategy 1.1 - Get alone well with my followers in diverse workplace

Firstly, I would have to carefully observe each of my team members and a basic knowledge their pay level, position and abilities to do tasks (Daft, 2015). This is my foundation for the successful leadership in a diverse team. Secondly, I would pay more attention to learn about their culture, personality, and lifestyle. I would try to put myself in their shoes to experience their understanding and feeling. Thirdly, I will need to create a unique culture of my team and develop a suitable way of dealing with each follower based on the diverse work style in my team. This new way that I tend to develop has to let people feel comfortable. The anticipated outcome of this action plan would be I can solve the problems in my team from my followers' perspective and reach a good conclusion with them at the end without communication failures or personality or culture conflicts.

In next semester, I will attend at least two events hosted by the Royal Roads University Student Association (RRUSA) and network at least five people who are from the diverse background in each event. Attending those events would be a perfect opportunity for me to get to know about the people I don’t usually spend time with in my school or community. It not only give me a chance to experience other diversity in this big team but also help me to integrate my culture into the team, in order to help them to understand my diversity.

Welcome to my leadership world! The purpose of this digital storyboard is to state my two leadership goals and my action strategy for achieving these goals. Those two leadership goals covered are, develop my leadership skill in diversity, as well as increase my ability to control my emotions. I will address how I will take actions to apply the theories from the leadership experience class into practice. The anticipated outcome of each action strategy would be addressed as well.

Goal 1- Develop my leadership skill in diversity

I want to be a leader who can effectively lead in diverse teams. According to Daft, every leader today needs to understand the complexity of diversity issues and create an inclusive culture (2015). In my previous team experience, I always want someone culturally similar to myself when I pick my team. However, in order to become a successful leader in a country with lots of diversity (for example Canada), I have to take actions to develop myself.

Goal 2 - Increase my ability to control and manage my emotions

I want to be a leader who can properly control and manage my emotions. Knowing how to control emotions is one of the key abilities that leaders with high emotional intelligence should have (Daft, 2015). Having this ability is very important for me because the leader's emotions can influence my followers' emotions and the whole teams' performance as well. If I can manage emotions effectively, my followers will easily follow it, so they can increase their efficiency at work. I define myself as a very emotional person. However, in order to lead my team to achieve good performance, I have to take actions.

Action Strategy 2.1 - Get to know myself

In this action plan, I will have to develop self-awareness, in order to observe myself carefully and learn my attitude or emotional changes when I have the conflict with my team members. First, I have to recognize and understand that I'm actually being emotional (Daft, 2015). After I admit that I am being emotional, I have to ask myself two questions. When I'm being emotional? Why I'm being emotional? After I get those two answers, I have to make a reflection on myself and make sure I don't make the emotional change next time for the same reason.

In this action strategy, I will look to leaders who with high emotional intelligence and learn from them. In daily life, I need to observe how those people deal effectively with their emotions. I would interview them regarding how do they deal with their fear, anger, sadness and envy (Daft, 2015). I would also ask some advice from those mentors regarding my emotional intelligence. After that, I have to analyze their answers and start to apply what I learn from them into practice. Their answer can change my way to guide my followers and help me to use the wise emotion to deal with them.
