"😆" is the emoji I would use to describe how I feel about new beginnings or changes. I always use this emoji when I am excited. I always try to be excited about what is to come next. Sometimes, embarking something new can be scary, but I always try to have a positive mindset. Furthermore, my goal is to get my TESOL Endorsement, which this is a class that counts towards me receiving the endorsement. I am very excited to learn and grow throughout the semester as I learn how to teach English Learners. 😆

Hi! My name is Vanessa and the rainbow emoji 🌈best describes how I feel about change. Change is an opportunity for personal growth. Sometimes, change is not easy and it can be scary, but there I can usually find something positive from it. I chose the rainbow emoji because it symbolizes hope after the storm. I am excited to take this class because I would like to work with ELLs (TESOL endorsement) and acquire the skills for effective classroom teaching.

When I embark on something new I feel excited, anxious, and optimistic of whats to come. I try to have a confident mindset and think of positive outcomes that can occur. However, there is always a bit of worry about what can go wrong. I am very excited to take this course! Growing up I was in ELL classes (Spanish is my first language) and I understand what students and parents go through during this time. I want to have a better comprehension of what exactly goes into teaching an ELL class. I also hope to achieve my TESOL endorsement and help students be confident in their own abilities.

Stepping out of my comfort zone always gives me a pit in my stomach, but it does not last for long once I put myself out there. Beginning this new course and spring semester makes me feel the same way, since it is my last semester of college. I am so excited to take this class and learn how I can best support my future students who are English Learners.

Hi everyone! I'm Natalie, and this is Nick Miller from the ever-iconic tv series New Girl. The mindset of this is GIF is, "As long as I give something an authentic effort, I will have significant takeaways to apply in the future. Any time is a good time to learn! It is even better if you learn in your own, unique, way". Nick Miller is a goofy, cheesy character who awkwardly embraces his weirdness. When trying something new, I find it to be ultra-important to embrace what you know and what you will learn, flaws and all with a vibe of "laugh it off, learn something, and do your thing, girl!". I have more experience with children who struggle with reading skills rather than students who are learning English as a secondary language. Of course, this course seems semi-intimidating, but I have faith in my abilities to learn how to most significantly support these students! Happy to be here. :)

Hello! My name is Allison and the gif I chose is from one of my favorite shows, Grey's Anatomy. To me this gif represents the start of the process when you embark on something new. The feeling of uncertainty is common for all people and I know that when I am taking on a new challenge it can feel overwhelming at first. However, you have to charge through the unknown to reach the other side as a better and more knowledgeable person. Being unsure is just one small part of the process. It helps me to be reminded that everyone has to start somewhere and that while I may feel helpless now, in a few weeks or months the new thing will be something I am comfortable with. This goes for teaching ELs, because while I have no experience and feel overwhlemed I know that as long as I do my best and keep at it, I will learn and grow into a more successful version of myself and be able to help out my students.

Hello! My name is Claire and I chose this GIF because whenever I attempt to start something new, I feel as if I am on a roller coaster! I always feel there's a slow buildup to the task, following with a rush of adrenaline to keep going with that task! Once the 'roller coaster' slows down, I start to feel more at ease knowing I have tried something new! How this connects to this course is feeling that same sense of adrenaline of trying something new not only in class, but connecting these concepts to my student teaching. While I am excited to start this journey, I first have to go up the slow hill of adjustment before diving into what comes next!

I always go into challenges and risks like I’m on top of the world and that I can do anything. I have confidence going into embarking on something new but then if the journey doesn’t go exactly how I planned it out, which is usually doesn’t, I start shutting down. Since I was already confident in the beginning I feel like I have to stay confident so I put on this facade that “I’m fine” and I still got it. What I usually do is get snappy with people I’m close with because I know they will stay but that has caused problems in the past. I’ve been working on being okay with changes in these past couple years and have become much better but I still don’t always love taking risks if I don’t get to plan. Connecting that to the course, I always say that I’m ready to learn and am excited to teach English learners but I’m still very nervous that I won’t be able to help those students or will struggle heavily with this course and its content. I also wanted to add the margarita because I just turned 21 and that might have something to do with starting new adventures too.
